I think we're all a little confused here. We've got a 1/3 defense by Reflect, and also an X Defense, right?

9.96 (rounded down to 9) without Sword Dance, 13.6 (13 rounded down) with Sword Dance.

I gave Alakazam plus 50% defense with X-Defense, isn't that the case?

X-Defense takes a base stat and multiplies it by 1.5 to get the modified stat. Alakazam's base defense was 45, which multiplied by 1.5 gives you 67.5 rounded down to 67. That's the correct stat, but I used 80 by mistake due to the way I have my battle tracker set up. Take a look:

It's easy to accidentally use Scyther's defense of 80. That's why I'm grateful for these kinds of questions.

Player Pokémon Type 1 Type 2 Max HP Atk Def Speed Special Status Condition Current HP
TIM Snorlax Normal   160 110 65 30 33 Paralyzed 80
Cat5 Scyther Bug Flying 70 165 80 105 82   70
KY Alakazam Psychic   55 50 67 120 135   28

I can totally see how you got the number 9, because I just set the number of 67 and then did a 1/3 modifier on the expected damage and got 9.

If you're trying to plan ahead by using math, Reflect is worn off so you don't need to use it now. But, for future reference, I take the damage output and multiply it by .33 and then subtract that answer from the output. Example: Damage after reflect = 15 - (15 * 0.33).

How long is Slash disabled for?

2 turns, so it'll be available on Turn 9.

TURN 7:
Scyther used Quick Attack!
Alakazam took 5 DMG (39 HP left)!
Alakazam used Psychic on Snorlax!
Snorlax took 29 DMG (131 HP left)!
Snorlax's Special stat fell to 17!
Snorlax woke up!

I forgot I'm not able to attack the turn I wake up. Man, I should really play pokemon again, I'm forgetting so many rules.

Seismic Toss

Only in gen 1. Other gens you can attack when you wake up.  Also handy for the competitive scene in later gens is having the move sleep talk, which lets you attack while asleep, for those pokemon that use rest a lot.

I only ever played up to Crystal which was Gen 2.

I don't think it matters, but I was expecting 6 damage. 67 is the current defense of the Alakazam now, right?

So...Alakazam can disable me or he can recover and get beaten to death anyway. Good Game. I think your Slash if free now that it's Turn 9, Cat5, not that it matters.

Seismic Toss.

Yeah, wasn't counting on a potion. Specifically used Quick Attack to make sure I went first.

Timeout, what happened there?

Damage = ((2.4 * 90 * (135/17) /50) + 2) * ((1 + 1.5) * 1) = 90

Psychic had a 10% chance to lower the opponent's Special stat, which could stack up to two times. Alakazam's Special is 135 while Snorlax's got lowered to 17. Talk about lucky. But can Alakazam survive Scyther?
