Where's Reborn Gone?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

So you may notice that Tiberian Sun Reborn has been removed from the Launcher and the forums.

We believe that you are all owed an explanation. It was brought to our attention this week that Wallywood has a document that claims legal ownership over some of the assets that have been featured within Tiberian Sun: Reborn.

The intention of this document was to defend against Bluehell Production's claim over the project when we split away and formed W3D Hub, but after an internal dispute with an existing staff member, the existence of this document was brought into the conversation.

After this fact came to light, our team viewed this as quite a significant breach of trust, so with that in mind, we could not justify continuing work with him. Wallywood's trust in W3D Hub had also been eroded over the years due a number of mis-handled internal disputes, so the line in the sand was respectfully drawn.

With our position made clear, Wally produced some terms which set out his position on the matter, however these terms did not include any annulment or  relinquishment of legal ownership.

After some negotiation, we respectfully disagreed to these terms, because at W3D Hub we believe that assets should never be legally owned by anybody and the whole notion of ownership sits at odds with the core ideology of modding.

We make these games for free in our spare time for our love of Command & Conquer. We're not a business and we don't make money from our projects directly.

Wallywood's statement on the matter is as follows:

Until we receive a manifest of all of the assets that we cannot use (and consequently remove them), TSR will be placed on indefinite hold and has also been removed from the launcher until we can sort out the assets in question.

We hope you all understand our decision and respect Wallywood's wishes.

- The W3D Hub Staff Team

Reminds me of the time dude was exploiting a money bug that would crash the server in ECW (When it was finally released after years of testing, kicking new players out of the game) whilst shaming Generalcamo for doing the same thing a few years prior. Was not impressed at all by that then and im not impressed by this right now.

I love you.

Wallywood should be allowed to retain control over his assets. While he was quoted as saying he was "baffled" and "angry" by the outcome, this was not entirely accurate.

The final resort for Wallywood was to meet with it's deputy producer, Raap, who agreed to resign from his position after the meeting in May, which caused his pre-ordained removal from the forums.

The meeting was supposedly held at the monthly general meeting, and a vote by the membership was arranged on whether to remove the leader of TSR.

However, it turned out to be an absolute farce – at least as far as I can tell. Many members were disenfranchised and resigned without voting, leaving the chairman, as just an elected member of the Club, and did not even count towards the Super members and were thus unable to vote. A number of users voted for these former founders of international origins but none of these individuals had a software license. In addition, if you left and didn't stick around for your position, you were automatically "detrimental" to the rest of the staff at W3D Hub, and so on. Further, none of these pro-Wallywood users had left any activities that were outside their club.

I’ve re written this post about four times now but this is the best way I can put this. This decision did not come lightly and I assure that we both (W3D Hub and Myself) tired our best to come up with a compromise. With the distrust from both sides, it’s very easy to see and understand why this was the outcome. I can assure you that I will be trying my best to work with the current W3D Hub team to try to help them in anyway to possibly get something TS related moving in the future but currently both party’s hands are tied on the matter as of right now. Thanks for all of the love and support that has been shown through out the years. -Wally

I'm seeing a lot of misinterpretations of this news. Wallywood has been absent for about a year or so from the TSR project (I think). During that time, Raap's done a lot of heavy lifting to help TSR be the 2.0 you've been told about. Now just because Wallywood is revoking his own assets from the project, does not mean TSR has to start from scratch. Until the team receives a manifest of what Wallywood has a claim to, there's no way to know exactly how much of a setback it will be. But, it isn't a setback to zero. Credit where credit is due.

I can see your points. But, before I know it, we're fighting here! And since you want to, I can see you'll let me fight back! But, to quote my father, even the Dragon God is not above deception.

Good show, Wally.

We have no "monthly general meeting".

And since when do outsiders have access to a meeting without invitation?

Man, I have seen some dick sucking in my day, but this takes the cake.

I respectfully disagree. This isn't just a video game, it's an excellent video game. This is one of those rare games that was created when a team of developers were forced to reach a ceiling after a previously successful title. The result is a videogame that is only slightly above average, but still a special game. All of the mechanics in the game feel clunky, and perhaps that's because the game plays in that same old style of cutscene/animation design. Not that it needs to be that way, but it is definitely from a gameplay standpoint. The game boasts the definitive treatment of dual analog controls.

Raap is not and was never "deputy producer" on anything. He did not "agree to resign" (from what?) after "the meeting in May" (which one?). What "removal from the forums" are you talking about?

We have no "monthly general meeting".

Which members "resigned without voting"? Who are you referring to as "Chairman"? What are "Super members"? Who are these "former founders of international origins" and what do they need a "software license" for? What "clubs" are you talking about? Who was deemed "detrimental"?

Wally's software license is the real issue here, not the community. And I hope that when the legal issues are resolved and Wally's games are liberated, you will be informed that you can no longer go to the Internet to complain. The question, then, is what will happen to the hardware and software they work with? To be honest, there is no way that all of this could ever come to light. Anyone who knows how to go to the Internet can do this, and for the most part it's done in a safe place with no one around you. Any computer you can point at the Internet, of course.

Hi there. So this is what Wally-free W3D looks like.
Thanks Wallywood for ignoring everything I said and trying to use me for your own ends. Take the time to reconsider your actions and enjoy being alone in the knowledge that YOU are the one who alienated us all.

This is sad to hear, hopefully a compromise will sort this out in future. Would hate to see a BHP kind of split again between producer teams, esp. after so many years of rebarn work over the years.
