  1. I've been interested in the history of computing for a long time and I've been meaning to get hold of some old hardware for a while. Up until now everything I've found has been ridiculously expensive (like over 1000 gbp for a 1970s commodore PET). There seems to be a massive collectors market, which pushes the price up.

To my delight, I found an old Acorn BBC Micro on ebay for 50 gbp and only a few miles from my house. Picked it up today :)

  2. Since writing my last post I have to retract my statement about the alien not being too scary... It is :)

The tension the game creates (much of it through the sounds and atmosphere) is incredible. Best game I've played In a long time....

Re the alien having a level of real AI, I didn't know that but had an inkling the more I've encountered it.

Also I bought Aliens: Colonial marines at the same time and while it looks nice, it has absolutely zero fear-factor... I feel like I'm shooting dumb acid-bags rather than intelligent killing machines... Shame as it would be nice to have a shooter that rivalled the original avp which I really enjoyed.

Edit: I think 3rd person would've taken a lot away from the game as well...

  3. Seriously, this game is fucking scary. Please excuse my French but I've not been this scared since the arms break through the wall on resident evil 2.

I'm genuinely more scared of those beady eyed androids than the alien... For some reason they dredge up a feeling of severe terror... I seriously don't think I can keep playing.

Also, as a massive fan of retro computing, I absolutely love the 1970s looking computer terminals!

  4. Thanks for the advice guys, it's much appreciated. I will check the videos out :). Also I know how to set up reference images and I modelled the lower part of the tank pretty much right off that blueprint, I just kind of went off on my own for the turret part. I was actually using screenshots of that Bradley ifv model on the renhelp website.

  5. So I thought id pre-emptively start a thread on this game. I'm currently just waiting for it to install on my seX-box and once I've played it for a bit I'll provide my review :). Seeing as one of our esteemed admins worked on the game, i thought it would be a good discussion point.

  6. TSR is a lovely game, but you can't deny that it's not triple A quality... That is the main issue. New players are used to games made on UDK or UE. W3d is niche... And unfortunately unable to render detailed textures... It doesn't have specular or normal mapping...

We all love w3d here but it's not easy to get people outside the community to love it as well :)

  7. Hey Andrew, the w3d community as a whole is in desperate need of some PR. The problem is; it's difficult to market it outside the community as everyone expects triple A quality in games these days. It's a very niche community. I'm hoping when AR and BFD is released it will spark some interest in the community.

  8. I can play pretty much any percussive instrument you give me, except toms, tenors, and snares. I specialize in keyboard percussion however, especially the Vibraphone. But I am also good at Marimba, and can play Chimes, Glockenspiel, and Xylophone. I used to play Clarinet a LONG time ago. I actually still have a professional clarinet lying around my home, and it is one of the best clarinets I ever had (even beats some people that went professional).

That's an awesome talent General, I've never actually met anyone who plays keyboard percussion... How'd you get into it?
