  1. I hadn't managed to get the launcher to run under Wine. The games I had no issue with (for the time I've played anyway).

Since there is no other way to get the game files than through the launcher, I grabbed the installed files from a Windows installation. After that is was just a matter of running the executable.

I should probably try and pick this up again to see how things are now with Wine.

  2.

... While I can't find a pic of that exact motherboard model ...

    Shouldn't this be it? http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03135925

It should....thats the pic I came to as well but I couldn't find where anything explicitly said that was it. And I found another page that listed that model along with about a hundred others that all use the same PCB :aaa: I felt that was a bit of a stretch haha. How did you find it? You probably google better than me lol

With the number information I found it was an HP machine, I then looked up that model on the HP site to find the specs of that model, including the mobo information.

Ofcourse we could always ask for a DxDiag output if we want to know more detailed specifics about the system (in case custom changes have been made to the standard model).

  3.

It's also easier for the non-tech savvy. No more "compatible with windows X, Y, Z, etc, etc", it's just "compatible with Windows".

This. And it would also make the lives of techies helping non-techies a lot easier..

It wouldn't be the first time I tried to diagnose a problem only to get the response "Just Windows" or "I don't know. Some Windows?" when asking the question what version of Windows they are running...

(Windows 8/8.1 became an easy one to figure out if they had it or not though :p )

  4. Our goal is to recreate the Red Alert engine as close as possible in C++, with the hopes of making the games main executable replacable with our compiled binary.

That kinda sounds how OpenTTD worked back in the day; you just had to provide the original TTD data and voilà.

In which case, awesome! I'd love to play RA2 with an updated engine so it would work fine on modern platforms.

PS. Any chance of fully supporting Linux with said new engine? ;D

(asking this because you mention you're going to use SDL, OpenGL and OpenAL but don't explicitly mention Linux)

  5. Granted but they now own all the binaries instead.

I wish I hadn't accidentally DD'd a RAID drive instead of the correct drive (damn you typo's! D: ) (guess I should really get some sleep... oh well recovery seems to work so hopefully everything is back up and running tomorrow)

  6. EDIT: damn you camo for the ninja reply!

Granted but the fighter explodes due to a mechanical failure before even lifting up.

Granted but now the oceans are empty space so you are unable to experience the beaty of any oceans or shorelines.

I wish I had a high-end quantum computer from the era where quantum computers are mainstream.
