Basically, he couldn't use his ability to try and prove his alignment, so lynching him proves the most effective solution then.

Because everyone else appears to have a alibi already. Items can be passed alongside using abilities, but that only applies if they had a Town like ability to hide behind.

The curse is removed by passing it to another player within a two day time limit, so I'm assuming their's some sort of trick behind it.
