Jeod decided to make Retalation a Scum player instead of any other role in game.

But that's half way the point of why they're neutral and Third Party, because they're not aligned with Town or Mafia. Can't count on them backing you up as Mafia or Town.

Ratio of Town to every other faction was way off. We had 5 effective Scum players vs. 7 Town.

You should have not outed yourself as Maifa and basically win by default.

That's better than an open setup, because then if I already know what roles are in game, then I can tell you how to play it before it even starts.

They do, it's control of the day lynch itself that you need to have to force a tie.

Game was really decided as soon as Mafia outed themselves, and the only thing left to do was wait for the GM to resolve whatever actions you could use.

No, because Category 5 still had a daykill thanks to mojoman. At best, you might have gotten you vs. Mojoman and KY.

It's a bad concept for a player role, since you could have just as easily have put the items in game without KY's character.

From the sounds of things, Retaliation was the only player with an actual investigation action? So that also tells you what balance was like.
