  1. Despite having missiles, I think that the biggest weakness to the Cyborg Reaper will be vehicles. The almighty Titan, for example, should have no problem 1-on-1, and the Mammoth Mk. II (if they have a build limit of one) should theoretically be able to one-shot a CR.

     

    If nothing else, I think there should be a range limit on the net. As in, outranged by rockets. In addition, if the infantry unit is in a tunnel or anywhere else that would prevent the net from pinning him in a real situation (such as in the door of a building), he should be fine. This is all balanced by the CR being a nightmare to infantry out in the open.

  2. I am 90% sure that if Westwood was able to put sandstorms in the actual game without screwing up performance or gameplay, they would have.

     

    Are you referring to Tib' Sun or Renegade?

     

    Tiberian Sun, of course. Renegade did have one or two minor sandstorms on a few levels in the campaign.

     

    EaW has sandstorms on desert planets, but they occur randomly and have an effect of diminishing LoS as well as a decrease in laser effectiveness. We could take these two factors into account (to an extent).

    Actually, I don't know if danpaul has mentioned this or not, but we were thinking, perhaps our project (Total Annihilation: Extinction) could be promoted to a BHP project. Thoughts?

  4. Even the APB system is flawed. I still like the rebuildable defenses idea, though since APB is doing fine without it, trying to make it work can wait.

    Rebuildable basic defences (Pillbox and Flame Tower ONLY, NO Tesla Coils or Gap Gen's) would be great in APB, as long as they require a Construction Yard and aren't insta-built (They should take a minute or 2 to build).

     

    Well, of course. This would translate into Sentry Guns/Pillboxes in AR, and Lasers/Component Towers in Reborn, if implemented.

     

     

    We've had trouble trying to get V3 Missiles to become targetable.

     

    Well, could you make vehicle explosions do damage to whatever is in the immediate vicinity, like a Demo Truck does? If so, you could make the V3 a vehicle entity targetable by AA defenses, then have it travel along a set arc that starts at the launcher itself and ends at the target? I don't know how to speak code, but you get the idea.

  5. We have to prioritise buildings that actually serve a useful purpose for the first release. Construction Yards don't really "do" anything beyond providing a too-slow-to-be-of-much-use auto-repair on buildings... assuming we make them work the same as they do in APB anyway.

    And going back to my original question, I noticed that the planned buildings list doesn't include the Allied Patriot Missile Defense. Is that a typo, or is there a specific reason?

    But I also noticed that the Patriot Missile defense is ommited from the planned structure list. Is that just a typo, or is there a reason for this? I'm pretty sure that, between V3s, Paradrops, Siege Choppers (if they appear as a crate unit), and hijacked Nighthawks, the Allies will need a good AA defense.

  7. We currently use the original RA2 icons, which look rather pixellated when blown up to sidebar icon size. I believe one of the recent new hires is supposed to be creating new icons based on the originals but at the correct resolution for the sidebar... not sure how far along that process is but I seem to recall seeing at least one 'new' icon.

    Which reminds me: APB could really use some better icons, like improved versions of the .9935 icons. The current icons look nothing like the original RA1 icons, and this takes away from the nostalgia that APB is supposed to represent. The .9935 icons, on the other hand, were nearly-perfect recreations of the originals, and for this reason, I feel that they look far better than the current icons.

    Of course, those icons use older models/textures, and so remakes of them would be better. In addition, many of them do not have camo options.

     

    Westwood Wars has already taken the liberty of porting the RA1 icons to APB, but they're getting remade altogether, by me, using modern screenshots. I'm posting the topic right now :D
