Shnappz
Hey, So i found this thread on BHP by Danpaul (thanks Danpaul!) http://www.bluehellproductions.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=17018 Which is a tutorial for animating Mesh's with WWskin. I was just wondering if this actually animates the tread, as in moves it around the wheels?
danpaul88
Yes, that is the purpose of that tutorial

Shnappz
Hey Dan, I've just tried this tutorial but for some reason my wheels still clip my mesh. I've linked all the vertices to the wheelP bones and everything is all as per your tutorial... Could it be because im using 3ds max rather than GMax?
danpaul88
No, this is supported in 3ds max as well. Are you exporting your model as hierarchial animated?
Shnappz
Sorry, I mean in 3ds, it clips when I pull the wheel bone down. I thought that the wwskin would pull the linked verticies down with the bone. Just like the picture in your tutorial. Haven't even got round to exporting it yet. also, to animate in 3ds I guess I push "auto key" instead of that nice big animate button in GMAX.
danpaul88
It only works whilst animating the bones, not just moving them around in 3ds Max

Shnappz
I know how you feel buddy Also i have another question, i've got my tracks moving nicely with the terrain now and my wheels spinning. (by the way LOL, i forgot to flip the X-Axis on the wheels originaly, so when i first imported the tank into game, the wheels were spinning on the wrong axis... Very weird if you can picture it) How is it that the texture spins around the model to give the impression of the tracks actually spinning round? At what point is this part done... does the engine know to "spin" any texture thats attached to the v_tread?
moonsense715
You need to unwrap the tracks for them to "roll" properly.
Shnappz
yeah... texturing the tank is the next thing i'm going to do... Do you mean UVW unwrap it? as in when you are going to texure it? Edited February 16, 2015 by Shnappz
danpaul88
Yes, the UVW unwrap is used to animate the treads on the tank. I don't recall the exact specifics off the top of my head, but there should be some info in the westwood tutorials dt recently posted in the tutorials area
Shnappz
Hey Dan, Where is this tutorials area?
danpaul88
At the top of this forum? It's possibly not been made public yet, I'll check with moonsense. We could always throw you a copy of the tutorial in a PM or something if necessary, or you could grab it from http://renhelp.laeubi.de/tutorials.html
