Ice
Hi, Just wondering how one would go about converting Gmax models to work in 3DS Max, for use in W3D games.
ChopBam
Use the w3d importer. Some modeling program proprietary functions won't carry over, such as quads/ngons, grouping, colors, layers, modifier stacking, etc. I've heard talk that animations aren't perfect either, so you'll want to babysit that. I haven't done any research on bones and hierarchy, so no guarantees there. The meshes might be cut up as well, so weld vertices and fix any broken smoothing. Most other things are held intact, however.
Ice
I've tried that but it doesn't recognize gmax files. :/ Is there a plugin I need or something?
ChopBam
Use the w3d importer to import w3d files that you exported from gmax.....
Ice
Ah, I see what you mean now Okay I'll install gmax and try that.
OWA
Yeah, only gmax can open gmax files just like only max can open max files. Also, google is your friend.
Raap
Also beware of mesh corruption when importing W3D assets, which can potentially cause a region of polygons on a mesh to not render in-game. You can fix that by editing the mesh a little and then re-exporting.
