It is unfortunate EA never released it as 'freeware' like they did with some of the older RTS games. I suppose they may eventually have done so if they continued making C&C games, but I don't think that is likely to happen ever again.

I think it might be a case of "you don't ask you don't get". Perhaps we should send them a nice email just before Renegade turns 20. :)

  2. [blurb]C&C Renegade turns 15 today! Come join us by celebrating the game that started it all, as we recall past battles and look back at the game's history.[/blurb]

It's been 15 years since C&C Renegade was first released to the public! No matter what the critics say, this game is an incredible and unique experience that has only been matched by the mods that it has spawned.

Without Renegade, this community wouldn't be where it stands today because the hours spent tinkering with modding projects has shaped the way that this community has grown over the years and brought us all together to make awesome things! Renegade is a game with an engine that still manages to keep surprising us and it's truly a fun engine to mod for.

Hopefully we'll still be here in another 15 years time at W3D Hub to celebrate Renegade's 30th birthday. Every day the community for the original game gets smaller, but we hope to keep it's spirit alive for as long as we can. Here's to you old friend. :toot:

This is regarding GDI's computer screen theme. Will it be changed from blue to green to better represent GDI during Tiberian Sun? Blue seems too Tiberium Wars-ish to me and a few others.

This is what I posted in the August update but I never got a response, seeing that this topic has some attention I'll ask in here. :)

Edit: I just noticed that I typed the GDI acronym and when you hover over it on the forum it tells you what it stands for. That's awesome! Whoever thought of that is awesome.

We've actually been talking about this a lot internally. I'm not sure whether a decision has been made yet as to whether we stick with blue or go with green, but @Wallywood should be able to shed some more light on it.

The new forum is a big step up for us. If you want to tag people in your posts like I did in my previous sentence you can using the @ symbol. Super neat!

As for vehicle veterancy, will that include ammunition increases, armor, speed, etc? Or will it just be an armor and damage increase?

We're still working on overhauling this system currently. We would like for it to be consistent so that players understand exactly what they are getting when they gain veterancy.

  4. Hi guys! Even though it's already halfway through February, here's a new avatar theme.

Well not so much a theme as an invitation to change your avatar to anything! This month is Everyone's February, so feel free to express yourself by changing your avatar to whatever you like!

Feel free to express yourself and have some fun! :)

By the way, Ninjas beat Pirates last month with 9 votes to 5. I guess the pirates didn't have a (wooden) leg to stand on! ;)

Something I noticed you seem to have (accidentally?) disabled, is profile background images, a native IPBoard feature. I happened to notice it while looking at my profile messages.

I just took a check and it was disabled across all usergroups. It should be fixed now. :)

Yeah, whoever made the new Reborn skin did a fine job of it. Thanks!

    Cheers! :)

Perhaps you should change the banner logo into something more general-purpose, it's both outdated and confusing when people go to W3DHub and then click on a forum that says "Reborn".

Functionality-wise you miss a few things as well, such as a simple link back to the website. And "leaderboard" will be confused with in-game statistics (what is the purpose of a "leaderboard" on a forum anyways, posting is not a contest).

We need to make something a bit more general purpose first. I have some good intentions, but not enough time to carry out most of them. I threw together this skin at the weekend as a stop gap measure, so it will only be improved upon with time.

The other things you mentioned such as the links and leaderboard requires a quick review, but we'll be sure to do what we think is best for the community and justify it in our updates. The link back to the website is definitely needed, so that will probably be what I work on next. :)

  7. IS this still on W3D engine? Aren't you pushing the textures too much? Or is it the other way around with this engine? it handles textures well but not Polygons?

Yes and no not really. Historically, W3D is not good with textures applied to high resolution meshes (if I remember correctly), but with more modern hardware, we can afford to throw the boat out a bit more on quality. Last time I looked, the typical infantry character in AR tends to have nearly double the polygons of the best looking infantry character in Reborn.

Another thing that I wonder about, whilst the internal structures of this game look great and more 'expansive' I often worry whether or not it'll be more difficult to repair since you'd be running around the place trying to find the central hub? Or do these minor weak points also serve as a repair hub?

To support what the other guys have said, I'll just quickly run through building objects in an easy-to-follow list.

    • Purchase Terminal - Buy your Infantry and Vehicles here.
    • Repair Node - Engineers and Technicians can use their tools on this object for a faster repair rate. The advantage of these nodes is that Engineers can repair the building safely without being gunned down by SEALs that are camping the Major Weakpoint/MCT.
    • Minor Weakpoint - Easy to Kill, disables the building until it is repaired.
    • Major Weakpoint - Hard to Kill, the building is destroyed when this is destroyed, much like MCTs in Renegade/APB/Reborn.
