  1. First off big thanks to devilslayersbane for translating my almost programmers code language into palatable/ comprehensive English.

    Ok so about Rocket soldiers

A lesser version of the rocket soldier might be a great idea for land only maps. I know that the team added the soviet RPG trooper which was a much needed equivalent to allied Rocket Soldier.

Maybe allies need a grenade soldier equivalent.

This would solve the need for permanent Rocket Solders in the roster.

OR dare I say purchasable rocket ammo or grenade ammo? 100 credits for 5 rockets?

Or maybe just reduce rocket range to be equal or 10 years less. (Boats have to pull closer to land to hit inland targets anyways. Besides how many targets are on the edge of the sea?)

  2. Ok I have been silent long enough! Time to whip out some Logic.

    Issue A) Rockets.

    1) range of projectile - how far is too far?

    Issue B) Permanent Roster

    1) who should be permanent?

    Observation A1) rockets-300$ destroyers 1500$ (gunboats, transports...non argument)

    A2) Pushwall rockets170 and destroyers 160

A3) destroyer missile launcher positioned approx 1 meter from bow of boat

Comment A) Range and cost seem to profit Rocket Soldier over destroyer. Should this be? I've heard six opinions maybe needs separate forum topic post.

Observation B1) .9935 "Kill Whoring" issue first appeared. Because of Oxystats recording K/D, and concern for upping rank.

B2).9935 Tanya abuse after barracks death increased demand

B3)Beta issue reappears with phase tank's silent squishing abuse, and insane APC range abuse. Increased demand for a solution.

B4) As stated before Gamma's tech lvl idea made losing a war factory too game crippling (as well as starting off with supply trucks compounded the issue)

B5) thusly each about scenario prompted the concept of permanent unit buys.

Comment B) What should be a permanent buy?

B1)Should Captain be permanent? Why? What is their intended purpose?

B2) Should shotguns be permant? Only argument is anti-Tanya or volk? Why?

B3i)Rockets... Tanks are not weak to basic arms fire (mere bullets).

B3ii)Aircraft are susceptible more than tanks, although riflemen shooting a hinds are humorous. (LoL possible kill whore laugher)

B3iii) Naval units... I haven't heard any missile sub complaints. So one could assume it's purely a boat issue.

B4) Grenades fit the anti-tank role, but are not a viable AntiAircraft or AntiNaval counterpoint. Also it is asymmetrical (if that matters in ABP).

B5) I recommend this point be a forum topic due to its lengthy muli-faceted multi-variable nature.

    Final Comments

1)Scenarios are in nature map specific and should be dealt with on a map level.

2)Scenarios on multiple maps are a balance issue.

3)Yes I was an APB tester, my nickname was numbers then it was switched to logic. (And yes I left testing 6 months ago)

    4) @ coolrock using the talking emoticon doesn't validate an argument, it merely censors opposing views. (And triggers negative emotional responses). A simple I hear you but disagree based on [evidence] would suffice.

    5) @ Dominant Hunter even though skill and aim is a valuable asset it is not a quantifiable Variable in game balance. Also an argument tactic I often use is to narrow the topic to a category like map balance rather try and answer every angle thrown at you. Valiant effort though.

    6) @ Einstien +1 point for recognizing an Ad Hominid attack.

    7) @ Everyone two pronged debates show little progress, best to break down in category than to make hasty generalizations.

Not Starcraft per se, but in the nearish future we do have another classic RTS to be brought to FPS. Stay tuned.

Total Annihilation, come on Total Annihilation, oh please let it be Total Annihilation, you know you want to make Total Annihilation :)

Oh... You are treding on medieval rts territory like settlers, in the age of empires where civilizations defended kingdoms with war hammers, magic, and mayhem.

errr.... I'm gonna go with... maybe... not sure what giant killer robots of doom have to do with medieval rts but ok :

Unless you mean Total annihilation kingdoms which is a totally separate game.

I thought you meant kngdoms, lol. I was wrong. But total annihilation sounds awesome.

  5. Oh yeah, how does balance work out when one side's free basic infantry is twice as powerful as the other side's? Or will AR not be sticking to RA2 in that regard?

I'll put it this way, they are way more powerful deployed, but they lack mobility (so they can't dodge anything).

Thus in an open field they rule but in close quarters or rocky/rough terrain they don't.

Edit: One more thing, you'll be getting a reborn quality game in less time than reborn took.

Don't expect a release within the next 2 years. Not enough developers, not enough interest. It's basically a dead project.

I know it sounds depressing, but giving false hope will only lead to disappointment.

No need to be so depressing. The game will see a release at some point, but there's still a lot of work to be done. The project itself in it's unreleased state is way more robust than APB or Reborn because it was built from the ground up rather than on top of Renegade's always.dat file. It should be pretty awesome to play when it's released.

Why not release what you have now and go from there? This mod is way overdue.

This is big talk considering reborn took a much longer time and it was based on a renegade template. I have played the test version of AR (the version 6 months ago since I am not on the current testing team).

Anyways Apocolypse Rising is awesome. It is a fast paced game, with an awesome arcade feel. It has a well done exp/leveling system. The tank leveling system works well, the troop leveling system works splendidly. Not even reborn has a finished tank ranking system. The units are unique and I could play it for hours. The gameplay felt balanced.

Yet there were buildings need texture, there were tanks and troops needing textures. There were troops without models and tanks needing modeling. There were code glitches and base defense issues. Therefore yes it would be a fun release, but it would be visually disappointing. And coding glitches would frustrate players. I feel that AR would be a bigger hit than reborn if it is given more time.

Disclaimer: this was 6 months ago when I was an APB tester and the above in no way reflects the current build.

  7. Interesting Concept...

I am cautious with how much input I give to a game in drafting phase considering I am still grasping the concept.

Yet I was wondering about the NPC spawning dynamic.

Are the NPCs found around the map? (generated with map/spawn timer locations) Or are they in a town/ship/village structure? (spawn in single/multi structure location) Or are they summoned? (like bought for a price or crafted/machined or called in from off map)

  8. The game used to be a lot like that about 3 years ago but it was too close to Renegade in many people's opinion.

In fact I know I wasn't supposed to but I kept around the tester install of the version 3 years ago by renardin.

Every character had a timed c4 and limited ammo. (it was enough ammo to get you to the enemy base to use the c4)

  9. Remember a long time ago a site called oxystats. It kept statistics on everyone who played on the server. It also had awards/levels for those who used different units (for example I was a bronze level sniper and gold level tank commander). I knew people that where on just for the sake of leveling up.

Maybe Reborn could develop a similar program for servers?
