A Path Beyond APB, no allied cruiser?
VERTi60 replied to System Error Message's topic in W3D Hub Discussion
Back in BHP there were these ideas floating around, to have multiple people controlling the different turrets (same for MK2 in Reborn). Personally I'm not really in such a favor but let's say the cruiser would be only a map prop (not a unit) as a special feature on a map, then fine. Anyways everything still falls down to "we don't have the model" and "it can't be a normal unit anyway for every occasion due to reasons". -

Flak used to be great when you had a pair of them, but that was before the Maximum Loadout (no power bar). My double flak Sentinel Copter basically got me to the protonium league, as I was able to keep everyone in air down . Nowadays the flak is still good, but you need to aim better and shoot less projectiles as the power drains quickly. Best combo now is have one Flak and one or two Proto Seekers (new homing weapon) - when you damage the enemy too much with Flak you can finish them with the rapid fire, almost no energy consumption Proto seeker. Of course for ground units this combo is useless, you'll probably need plasma guns too - so my new Sentinel has all three of them to be most effective. If you want to have the Flak Track more competitive on the ground you can either remove some of the internal parts - two radars and radar receiver (e.g. use your eyes instead of radar), and add some extra weapons, or, remove the flak cannon and install proto seekers or missile launcher or (as ChaosK tried) rails. Really the freedom of weapons now allows you to try various good combos. Against ground robots it's usually Plasma (alpha strike), then SMG to finish, against air as i mentioned Flak and Proto Seeker works good, but also LML + SMG (like my orca). Edit: I just played a couple of TDMs with Flak Track, it's actually able to hold enough energy consumption to take out fliers nicely, and as for ground, sniping works with the improved flak accuracy. -

Hmm, we could have a map where we could script the mcv to activate some events, like two sides fighting for an abandoned mid base which would give the other team access to some technology, extra silos, working defence and refil pads. It would be more fun to escort a whole mcv rather than just exploit engineers again for everything capturable as we do now. We already have many props of abandoned bases on some maps, but they are not used. This could give the MCV some meaning after-all. Also there were some interesting MCV coop missions on the zunnie's coop server, where you had to protect the MCV, not sure if the MCV had any ability or purpose back then though. -

Alright, I have updated the OP. We could have a chat version of RA:APB Mafia the next week's sunday, probably at the same time I'm writing this post. Chat version (on TS) is scheduled for Sunday 20th of Mar 10 PM UTC/GMT. If you think you're available, PM me or write down here, if you like you can also pick a role from the role sheet. I'm still open for custom roles, but these will most likely be available again for the next forum version. I'd like the chat version to be more classic. I'll also make a mafia schedule master thread next week also. Next forum version (RA: APB Mafia II) will be announced, as said, before Easter. We'll also have some new units and changes.

It's essentially same, just imagine soviet base instead of the village, RA:APB soldiers and units instead of town and scum members and their appropriate roles. Also since we have battle units, all units have at least one RNG based battle action along their night/plan actions to make it more interesting. The OP explains all other little details.

Next game will be announced either this Friday or this weekend and it will most likely be scheduled for next weekend, or the weekend after it (but before Easter). It's not gonna be a classic forum game though, but the chat version on our W3D Teamspeak. Specific time for the game will be crucial so I'll let players decide when they are available during the weekend or if we need to make two sessions. Some of you would prefer this version, because it will be short and very simple. You may find the chat version quite different, maybe more challenging too. Here's the main attributes for example: Short 10 minute phases - meaning there will be no place for lurking (quiet players are hammered usually), manufacturing large cases, no way to go back and quote large amounts of texts, backtracking all the time. Players will need to be vigilant, look for slips and leads on the spot and make quick decisions. It's almost as real life! No lore or additional content/objectives - the game is simplified to "find and lynch scum or die trying", there is no time to develop additional content or create a backstory. Game is concentrated on the game-play itself. All actions will have to be typed out in chat still, but the game is truly driven by the players, what they talk about. There are no outside influences or mid-game inventions, bonus stages, anything. Everything has tight rules and simple flow of things. Less Power Roles (or PRs) - to make the game go smooth and make the actions resolve faster (especially PPs), there are less Power Roles. All day actions are one time use for the whole game. PP actions are also semi limited, you will have to be careful with frequency and/or max amount. Voting is more important in this setting then actions, but on the other hand a well played action can make a bigger difference then. More adrenaline - you will notice that while playing a chat game your adrenaline will go high, so most of the players will play either more aggressive or make more mistakes. It needs a bit of a concentration to play casually. On the other hand this tension creates many funny moments and the game can also turn into a laugh fest. Instant resolving - you don't have to wait for the GM to resolve something when he's available, all actions are resolved within seconds. Plan actions are also resolved within few minutes so there is no time to "change plans". Everything done is done and there is no way back, even if a mistake is done. More games - if one game ends too short there is an option to start another one immediately instead if players like to. Next Forum game version will be announced before Easter.

There were reasons to this. I decided that I'm not running next game with floating rainbow trees and ghosts which players suggested me to have during the game I rather used those things in a game where it doesn't matter as much (e.g. troll roles where town wins anyways) Also Cat5 had the mystery role since beginning, I just didn't want the TP to be active along with so many new players together with mafia at the same time - it could mean both town and allied loss. The condition to activate TP was that town must have at least half of the population alive when last allied dies, and, as Cat5 reveladed, he had the option to END the game whenever he liked. There was no reason since the second phase turned out to be more interesting than expected, and it didn't drag the game for too long either.

Just an observation - scum acts hostile only when they have either nothing to lose or are very close to victory (even my Necros from DS acted friendly at first ). Ghosts acted hostile because they've found you hostile (they knew one of you might be scum - see dead doc). On the false pretenses, town got distracted believing that if somebody is hostile it means they simply must be hostile...

You had the Mystery role (although not that different from the original custom role ML that was used on BHP) Custom roles were Camo's MCT, Ghosts and Chaos' FRTree. Some of the actions of the custom roles were modified though from the original to balance them a bit.

Lynch 7 Result [Lynch Result - Success] Players have decided that Voe is going to be lynched today! You have all gathered around Voe. He seems to be hiding inside a tank, so you needed some time to flush him out: As soon as he got out, he tried to escape, but got stopped just outside by base perimeter by mysterious force. Or was it just an ordinary anti personnel landmine? Voe, the Soviet Heavy Tank (former captain), will not fight for Stalin anymore! NIGHT 7 - Game END After the lynch, triattack went for a night watch before the sunset, but didn't expect this to happen. A wild Killer Mine Layer has appeared, completing his lust for annihilating everything... alive. triattack, the soviet sniper (former infantry), was killed where he stood. Category 5 Hurricane, the Killer Mine Layer (TP) being possessed by the evil spirit, in his vicious attempt to kill everything, has murdered all of his comrades and was victorious. When the soviets returned to the abandoned base, they tried to discover what has happened here. According to the high energy readings, it seems that Allies in their last attempt to change the course of the war for this vital outpost, used a device known to us as "chronosphere". Although since we do not know what this device was suppose to do, the Allies didn't manage to change the outcome of the battle, but instead, they have changed everything else. Ghosts of our fallen soldiers have returned and some of them possessed our finest assets, including Category 5's Mine Layer. Even the MCT was possessed by a former General, which was then released from it. Although it seems all Ghosts of the past disappeared to their final resting place, for reasons unknown, but maybe because there was nothing else to resolve, or, the chronosphere effect was disappearing as well. Generalcamo, the FOI Ghost Soldier managed to put all things at rest. Since the spirits have left the base, our engineers were able to restore it to the former state, removing all of the effects of the mysterious force of chronosphere. And thus Allies, even in their last attempt to change things, have failed once again. And so, long live the heroes of our motherland, for our cause will prevail! Soviets have won! Who else we forgot? Oh yea, there is a funny looking tree in the base. Nobody bloody knows how it got there, but it maybe a glitch some mapper forgot to fix. Seems like Chopbam was laying off the job, no chop, no bam, no fix. Player & Game Information Game Winners: Category 5 Hurricane, the Killer Mine Layer (Mystery 1), has been altered back to its former state - Soviet Mine layer and is victorious! triattack, the Soviet Sniper (former infantry), is victorious! Voe, the Soviet Heavy Tank (former Captain), is victorious! Nodlied, the Soviet Flamethrower (former infantry), is victorious! Fraydo, the Soviet Soviet Starshina (which got paranoid), is victorious! Generalcamo, the former Ghost occupying the Soviet MCT (Custom 1), is victorious! Chaos_Knight, the Floating Rainbow Tree (Custom 2) (former RPG trooper), is victorious! Congratulations to Allies as well: iLikeToSnipe, the FOI Ghost Soldier (Bonus 1) (former Allied Engineer) One Winged Angel, the Allied APC Mojoman, the Allied Spy Player Role Infos: (click for large) Don't forget to check out the DOCS, as there is more information to the game, as well as some of the funny moments! DAY 7 You wonder if the new set of mysterious deaths has stopped today, although after a quick roll call the answer is no. After a short while, you have found your missing comrade, killed by mysterious force outside of the base perimeter. Nodlied, the Soviet Flamethrower has burned out for the last time! We must not give up now however. Find and lynch the one responsible! The Soviets win when they have eliminated the Allied threat (all allied players must die). The Allies win when they have managed to dispose of enough Soviets to outnumber them (or equal before plan phase). If there are any Neutrals in game, they will win if they survive until the game ends with any of the fractions winning. Day Guidelines During the DAY - Battle Phase (24 hour duration), everyone talks and tries to build cases against each other directly in the forum chat. While the Soviets are arguing to try and find the Allies, the Allies are trying to throw everyone off their trail. The goal of the Battle Phase is to find somebody for a Lynch. People will vote for one person they want to be lynched and the person with the most votes will die at the end of the day. Your vote should be in this format: ##Vote PlayerName If you decide to change your vote, you must first ##unvote (player name not required but is helpful) or you can simply vote another player if you already know who. If a majority vote of over 50% is cast on one person, then they will be lynched right then and there, no need to wait for the end of the phase. When someone is lynched, everyone will find out their role and who they were aligned with. During the Battle Phase, players are also allowed to use their battle actions, such as ##shoot, etc. which will be resolved instantly. If the target players dies, he will be eliminated from the game and the game will continue (his vote will no longer be counted). All BP/day actions need to be acknowledged by the mod before they are counted (just simple line to acknowledge so you know it came through, Current Vote Counts (or CVC) will appear periodically to inform you about the time remaining as well as the current vote status). Remember, without the mod acknowledge line, your vote or action doesn't count, so please don't do actions before the previous one was resolved. If it was missed, please use ##TIMEOUT command to stop the game, but only if it's really required (otherwise just repeat your action). All players are required to participate in chat, if one player stays quiet whole phase he/she might get role blocked for the next plan phase. Additional Rules: No quoting mod communication or other out of thread communication. No out of thread communication unless specifically allowed by the mod. No content-posts after death unless allowed by the mod. Whitenoise that doesn't affect the game is fine. Use your best judgement, but remember that anything you say can be taken by the players to mean something it doesn't. If in doubt, say nothing. The same goes if you aren't playing, and double if you aren't playing and have been spoilered. Don't try to break the game. No sillyness like telling everyone to make a roleclaim post and encrypt it, then reveal their encryption keys/methods all at once for example. No saying "my role PM has X characters in it" And if you come up with it, and you're a little too proud of coming up with it as a way to get around the spirit of the game, don't post it. Mods, do your best to prevent this crap in the first place if you can. Don't give everyone with the same role and/or win condition the exact same wording for example. "Outside influences" such as bribing, threats, promises, whatever falls under the above. Don't do it. Don't be an ass. This includes "bussing" fellow scum/cultist teammates. By bussing we mean revealing fellow scumteam members as scum to spite them or gain townie points. No backseat modding. Unless the game's GM/Mod asks for forum moderator assistance, let them handle it. Especially if they have forum moderator privileges themselves. This is more of a respect/courtesy thing than a rule. Pointing out that the hammer has fallen and noone should be talking until the moderator handles it is fine; deleting posts put up after the hammer isn't. If you signed up for a Mafia Game, you're expected to participate actively. It's up to a GM to setup a minimal post quota for each player so that the game won't get hampered by inactive players. If you know you won't be able to play for more than one day, it is your responsibility to let the GM know in advance. Please don't try to be an Internet detective to find out who was online where and when. Not only is it not a good way of hunting down players, it's also a bit creepy and unfair for the person. Don't base most of your case on someone around "his last online time was X thus he was online at hammer but didn't post/vote" for example. Don't abuse the Board's Voting system - don't upvote/downvote player's posts unless you are allowed from the mod Don't edit your posts in game thread CVC - Cumulative Vote Count Time Left: 23 hours, 59 min, 59 sec CVC: Category 5 Hurricane voted nobody Chaos_Knight voted nobody Generalcamo voted nobody triattack voted nobody Voe voted nobody 0/5 votes casted so far No votes casted so far

Lynch 6 Result You have all surrounded Chaos_Knight to complete today's lynch. But what you have seen is beyond comprehension. There are simply no words to describe this... "new level of existence". Category 5 Hurricane approaches first and starts wondering what to do, as it seems Chaos_Knight is broken somehow and doesn't even fit in his place. Nodlied looks up, nods, and then starts filling a bug report of some sort. triattack tries to "fix" Chaos_Knight, but he only made it worse. Voe bursts into laughing. FRAYDO is still dead. [Lynch Result - Fail] Players have decided that Chaos_Knight is going to be lynched today! After a quick realization, you noticed that Chaos_Knight cannot be lynched by no means necessary! NIGHT 6 After the lynch, the night falls soon. You wonder if there is any threat left in the base, or if everything is alright. The moon is still blood red. Something bad may still be happening as the evil spirits are haunting your base. If you have any Plan Actions you want to perform during the Night, please send them now via PM before next Day starts! Night Guidelines During the Night - Plan Phase (18-20 hour duration depending on PP actions and GM availability), Allies will have to decide to kill a Soviet player. They must also decide who will make the kill. However, certain people in both the Allies and Soviets have special roles they can use during the night to kill, protect, disrupt, or gather information. Some roles carry a certain risk while others give a little more freedom. When the new Battle Phase begins, everyone will see who has died during the night and find out what side they were on and what role they had. Plan/Night actions are done classic way by the Private Message (PM Forum Messenger, outside the chat), same as resolved action replies. If you have a night action and do not inform me by PM at least 5 mins before the next Battle phase begins what you are doing with it, you do nothing that night. Talking in the chat during the plan phase will be restricted. This is because I won't have time to mod it since I'll be focusing on resolving the received actions (+5 extra mins for resolving). You can only chat in general, but no game-based stuff (accusations, plans, role claims, etc.). Players who won't comply might get role-blocked that phase. Forum Posting is Limited - 2 posts per player max during night!!!
