Nodlied had a cult in a CYOR back when TheIrishman started playing. Basically, we've had cults. It's not unthinkable. I'm thinking more along the arsonist line myself.

TheIrishman roleblocking everyone who visits him wasn't something that seemed likely either. It was either the knife roleblocked, or two different people from different alignments both targeted him. It was kind of a coin flip to me which was true.

This is just what we need in this game, the threat of people getting infected by other visiting them.

I guess that depends on if you think TheIrishman is scum or not, though I think he would know what was going on anyway. Or if items get collected on kills, or there is an item thief, I guess.

The direct roleblock and the knife attack being separate actions only makes sense if one of them is Mafia and the other is Third Party. Which could make sense, as the implied idea with the infection is that whoever has that picked Shade because he was going to visit someone, while the roleblock was to specifically stop Shade from doing what he said he was going to do. In this setup I would guess the infection is coming from the Third Party, and the roleblock is Mafia.
