wasn't the Telsa Tank pretty devastating on Ra2?

Yes it did do a good amount of damage but was also pretty easy to kill, so you best either have lots of them or have them escorted by other units, that could take more of a beating

It actually had the same armor as a Grizzly, which is 300. So it's not all that bad, 3 shots from TT can kill a Grizzly though.

Yea but the Grizzly has a faster reload time, but yea in that situation the TT would ussually win.

Nice new model looks cool, i kinda liked the turret on the older TT though :D .

Gonna be cool to build sandbags, but there is gonna have to be a limit on where you can build em, ya dont wanta block the entrance to a building. :)

Keep up the good work guys. :)

After a little debate, we have decided that sandbags should be buyable and you should be able to place them around the map (not in front of doors though).

and the grizzly was also the lowest armored tank in the game, and not to mention the grizzly was faster too

And our beta testers will know that in AR, the Grizzly tank is very fast and, if used properly, can take down a full health / armour Apoc tank in 1 on 1 combat by simply dodging it's shots. Requires a lot of skill by the Grizzly driver, and relies on the Apoc driver not predicting their movement and leading the shot effectively (fast changes of direction help the Grizzly here).

Generally, between two equally skilled drivers, the Grizzly would lose, but the Apoc would take a heck of a beating first.

EDIT: And, of course, the Grizzly's driver can easily escape the ponderous Apoc tank, so if it looks like it is going to lose the battle it can just run away, while the Apoc, being a lot slower, would have a tough job escaping from a battle if the Grizzly driver wants to destroy it.

EDIT2: And don't forget, running away is a very good idea sometimes, since you will save your veterancy points that way. Getting killed strips all of your veterancy points from you, so should be avoided at all costs. Even if you don't kill the opponent you might still have a lot of points for damaging them, which all count towards your next promotion.

Could have sworn that the Prism Tank and the Robot Tank had less armour.

indeed I predict running away will be a much more viable tactic in AR than in any of the other mods to Renegade, ans also other of your teammates might be able to finish off the apoc you run from

ehh... you might be right

Yeah, hit and run tactics might be a very important strategy for the Allies, using their faster tanks to their advantage, gaining veterancy points (and therefore more powerful tanks) without losing anything. The Soviets on the other hand generally have slower tanks, and would rely on firepower to obliterate the Allied tanks, and gain promotion that way.

So for the Tesla tank arc, are the the walls going to be high and the tesla tank has a secondary fire like ^, or something? Otherwise I don't get it

Now there's a question that hasn't been asked before. Thinking about it now the secondary fire will probably arc over walls which will look really cool.

Every vehicle can shoot above wall :D

wallproblem.jpg

what about if you change that battle lab out with a grizzly tank? how will you then get it to hit that without arching?

Hint hint: Beam type weapons CANNOT arc, which both tesla and prism tanks would use for their weapons. Hence, arcing over walls is NOT possible with those tanks...

I am 100% sure the Tesla tank was one of the few tanks that could shoot over walls, so somehow it must have arched, and I am pretty sure the prims tank did it too. And since when has electricity been a beam, I really never seen a lighting going straight down

Do you think the prism light went over the wall then suddenly it turned towards the ground?

RA2 is an RTS and AR as an FPS can't really have everything ra2 did. As it is said in the FAQ, we're making the mod as close to RA2 as the engine lets us (and as far it doesn't look stupid).

I meant with Renegade. In the Renegade engine beam type weapons cannot arc. So we cannot make arcing tesla bolts, they have to travel in a straight line ( + the wierd ziggy zaggy stuff, but internally its still a straight line with a ziggy zaggy drawing method applied )

Ummm...OK I know I have no idea how this all works in reality and I'll probably get chewed out for making stupid suggestions but...about Tesla Tanks arcing over walls, would it maybe be possible to make a trail effect, like the smoke for the shells, using a model of a sort of ambiguous...blob of lightning like the stuff in Diablo for instance, and have that running like a shell on an arc, fast enough so it appears to be instant?

And about Prism Tanks...is it at all possible to make them just fire...through walls without hurting them, and see target data [at least for buildings] behind them?

I hope...that I haven't just repeated stuff already said, can't remember what's been suggested at all.

It could work, but it wouldn;t really look like a tesla bolt anymore.

If the Prism tnak could burn hole in the wall that would rock, but the engine limits us on what we can do right now.

Thanks for the suggestions though.

You're welcome...

Though I just now though of something probably more insane...if you have the Comet fragment things worked out, any way invisible ones can be triggered to bounce up the wall, across, back down, and fire an equivalent beam from more or less the same spot as on the other side? Not perfect, obviously, but if it gets functionality in...

...Or maybe an even simpler special wall code to just fire a beam out the other side. I believe I remember seeing Prism Towers bouncing beams in a video...?
