That would be amazing! Especially since Renegade works very well in linux.

I'm guessing for now though there is no temp work around so i can play? :(

Try using Asterisk (found in our downloads section). It is pure vb-dotnet, which I'm guessing will work fine on Linux, although I have not tested it. You will have to add the connection information manually to set up a profile, but it is easy to use once that is done.

Let me know how it turns out.

Just paid amd downloaded the game from ea. When i go to launch the game from w3b hub  rencorner server the game starts the opening scene then crashes about 20 seconds in . I can play the w3b server with the new maps but rencorner server crashes. Any idea?

Did you install the latest (or any) TT patch? Some servers require a certain TT patch level in order to play.

Was there any message? The term "crash" is quite generic, and there are a few different ways that Renegade can crash. Sometimes it will produce a crash log that we can inspect to see where the problem is occurring.

I installed c&c renegade by installing interim apex and then importing the interim apex game as c&c rengade game. This has worked fine so far. The scripts update program would then automatically download & overwrite incompatible files.

With the latest scripts 4.8 update, the game does not start anymore. Instead, it gives an error popup "set working folder and try again..."

    Can we fix this somehow?

What you describe seems to be some sort of process to obtain part of Renegade for free, which is not possible through our system. In order to maintain a good relationship with EA and also stay legal ourselves, we can not provide anyone with a way to bypass the legal method of obtaining a paid product, nor assist them in doing so. This falls under "warez", which goes against our community rules.

Renegade can be purchased alongside 16 other C&C games in the C&C Ultimate collection for $20 USD normally, or frequently as little as $8 when it is on sale. This is the best legal deal that exists, and I highly recommend it!

If you insist on obtaining the game outside of the legal means, there are plenty of places on the internet where Renegade in its entirety can be illegally obtained, but again, we can not touch that with a 10 foot pole if we wish to continue to exist. And besides that, downloading pirated software is a great way to get infected, in which case you will be out money getting that fixed at a computer shop anyway - that $8 is looking better all the time, no?

Related to your question, whatever you do, you need to tell the W3D-Hub launcher to "forget" your boogered game instance if you wish to link the launcher with a copy of Renegade in the future. Go ahead and delete that because there is no fixing a tangled combination of two games. Depending on what exactly you did there, some additional cleanup may be required to get a proper game copy working. Honestly I am surprised that what you did worked at all, as we attempt to prevent that from happening. The specific issue you are having is likely due to the fact that your "game" still identifies itself as IA, even though you have slapped some Renegade files on top. It is possible that this shared identity has also affected your normal IA install in some way as well, but maybe not. In the end, you may have to blow it all away and install fresh copies to get it all working.

Ahh that explains why I lost the files, I made sure to copy the game under program files however for some reason whenever I went to copy my AppData folder nothing was in fact copied so I lost everything that was in there.

That would be exiting as there are some elements of 1.2 that I prefer over the current versions. Also do you guys plan on rereleasing other old versions of APB?

I do plan on getting a few of the other milestone builds running on the latest 4.x engine and then putting them on the launcher. The final Alpha version "0.9935" will likely be next. It mostly works but will need to be tested. Same case with APB Gamma, the one before Delta. It was originally developed on the early 4.x engine, so it has taken the updates very easily. Beyond that, I want to try to get a combination build working, containing everything prior to Alpha 0.993. The reason for not releasing them individually is because they are nearly identical in many ways and contain so few maps (10 total maps between them all) that it would be cumbersome to do and likely boring for anyone to play. With 10 maps, at least it would make a decent throwback game night.

  5. Oh hey! I was away this weekend and did not check the forum until now.

If you had the map previously in the last 2-3 years then it was almost certainly obtained through the TT downloader aka TTFS. Those files can be found in C:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\W3D Hub\games\apb-121\ttfs. If you have these files on a previous computer or something then just copy the whole folder. The map will not be in a .mix format there but rather in an extracted format. Copying the whole folder will be the only way to get the whole thing.

I should have this somewhere, but I will also check with moonsense, as he was developing/maintaining this map for APB 1.2 until the server was taken offline. On that note, I'd like to get that back up some day. Its on my list....eventually. I also need to test 1.2 against the latest 4.x engine version and then release a minor patch to the game if no issues arise. I also seem to recall that there was a broken texture that needs fixing as well.

  6. Hello @ chill AX2 and welcome!

If you have not installed the Tiberian Technologies patch for Renegade, please do so. Installing or re-installing this patch can correct a lot of common issues. As Chopbam said, something is not quite right with your game files, and it is affecting what is called the strings database, which holds nearly all of the text seen in the game. Everywhere that you see "TDBERR" is the game's way of letting you know there is a problem.

This is true of Dune but not Interim Apex.  IA is giving me the download error message if I retry the download. Deleting the folder in program data is the only way to resume it, which of course means downloading from the beginning every time.  I don't know why that is.

Also where is errors.log located?  I don't see it in my w3d hub folder.

Your errors.log file is located at Documents\W3D Hub\Launcher\errors.log

You may not have to delete the whole folder in the case of IA - sometimes you can delete the individual package that coincides with the one that the process fails on (if you pay attention during the download).

Actually you can change the location of the download cache using the settings in the launcher itself - cog icon in the top corner. Just FYI

The errors.log file might reveal why it's unable to download files - also worth noting that it will resume a partially completed download if your connection drops and you try it again

Thanks for reminding me! I completely forgot you added that setting!

@ korninja Lets look at this option before we try something else, as it may be much easier.

    Thanks danpaul!

There are still 84.1gb available on the main drive and all 931 available on the back up.  It shouldn't be a lack of space.   Interim Apex is one of the first games I attempted to download when i bought the pc brand new a few days ago and it was still failing half way through.  I've downloaded and installed many large games since then.  My internet connection is not terribly stable. Does the launcher give up the download if my internet connection is lost maybe?

    *edit

Also to clarify, the problem with the Mental Omega launcher was that the autopatcher took hours to download whereas downloading the patch in my browser and installing it manually took minutes.  Hopefully that information might be helpful to you.

Ah I see. Yes, an unstable connection could cause this. In that case, I may be able to help. We do not currently distribute the games in any form besides the launcher, but I may be able to get you the files you need. Message me and we'll see what we can do.

  10. Hello @ korninja and welcome to W3D-Hub.

Based on your description, it sounds like you almost certainly have limited space available on your primary partition. While the Launcher and games themselves can be installed in any location, the folder that I think you are referring to, which contains the download cache, unfortunately can not be relocated. Beings as this is happening as you mention with cases besides our games and launcher, I think the best solution would be to clear up some drive space before trying to install anything else. If you need assistance in doing that, I would be glad to help.

I've still got an old copy of The First Decade sitting on my desk getting dusty, and I've been feeling in the mood for C&C Renegade.

Once I've installed it, what else is needed for the game?

Download the TT patch from tiberiantechnologies.org and apply it to your installation. That should be it! Remember to not try to set up the W3D Hub launcher with Renegade until AFTER the patch is installed and tested to be working. And be sure to use game2.exe as well.

I didn't find any 5.0 script you referring to.
    gone to :

And 4.8 is the last version so far.I don't see any 5.0 version.
Or is it a particular version of yours?

On 3/10/2023 at 4:58 PM, ChopBam said:

Scripts 5.0 and 5.1 are versions of scripts that ship with newer W3D games than Renegade, such as RA: A Path Beyond, RA2: Apocalypse Rising, and Battle for Dune.

To clarify, 4.8 is part of what we internally call the 4.x engine family, whereas 5.0 and 5.1 are "branches" of the 5.x engine family. Without going into too much detail, the primary difference between them is that the 4.x family is aimed at maintaining compatibility with Renegade and other mods that use the traditional Renegade structure under the hood. The 5.x engine family is more custom, which allows us to more freely and easily develop new features, but also breaks compatibility with Renegade, which is why we maintain these separately. Sometimes features are developed on one branch, and then are ported to another, but the implementation might have to be different due to the differences in the engines.

    Hope this helps.

  13. @ Macplayz Hello again!

Be sure that you have gotten all the windows updates that are available. There is an update or two after SP1 that are required for the TLS connection to work properly. I don't remember which update(s) in particular, but I can find out if installing everything available doesn't solve the issue. We recently had an issue where some updates were being blocked for another player, and we had to find a way around which ended up working.

  14. Hello! And welcome to W3D-Hub!

I know you are all volunteers doing this as a labour of love, but one day some forum re-kajiggering would be awesome.

Indeed we are, and some "re-kijiggering" is already in the works, I just have not finished it. Some input from a fresh set of eyes might actually be useful, because the help info that I've been working on might overlook something that I have assumed is obvious or well-known due to my own familiarity. DM me on this, and I will make sure that your points of confusion are covered somewhere in the new help guides when I finish them.

Thank you for your praise of our projects, this is much appreciated! Glad to see that someone who played a long while ago has made their way back, very cool :)

Is there scheduled nights to try and meet up for a fuller server? I'll do what I can to spread the word about these games and the launcher, but planned nights would be awesome for existing players to fill the servers up.

There are events from time to time, and we usually announce them via our Discord as well as social media. :)

As for your issues with the games, lets get some information... Refer to the posting guide here at the top of this subforum. Do you have any video or screenshots of the rainbow rocks or mini freezes? You mention some details about the issues you are experiencing, but what about your hardware? The description gives me a little bit to go on, but I don't want to assume too much before knowing some hardware and software information about your system, as well as the composition of your Renegade install. From where did you acquire Renegade? Is it updated with the TT patch? What modifications have you done to the game yourself?

Let us know what we are working with, and we will go from there. And again, welcome!

  15. I'm fairly certain that if both of you are on the same network then the server should just appear in the connection list for clients on that network. You need to set it up correctly of course, with the playercount and other options, but it should be pretty straightforward. You can always use the IP address of the computer you are hosting from as well, if it doesn't appear in the list automatically. Sometimes certain networks or network settings on some computers can prevent the "advertisement" of LAN servers, so you would need to use the IP address in that case. Try pinging the computer you are hosting the game from on another computer. If that doesn't work, then there is definitely something network or network-setting related at play.

    Both Local Network

Alright, so just to make sure we are on the same page, is this an IA server, or Renegade, or something else?

And by what method are you trying to have a server? Via the built-in "host server" option in the game, or by a FDS installation?

  17. @ SsaschaDE Hello and welcome!

I have a few questions about the details here:

What program are you using in your first picture?

And in the second picture, does this error happen when you run Renegade, or at some other time?

From where did you obtain your copy of Renegade? (Origin, "orange box", TFD, Ultimate Collection, Original disks, "other")
