  2. Hey All, So this is the working title of my new project using W3D. This is the first time i've ever ventured into game development so i thought if i had a solid background story, i'd always have a base of insipration i could draw from. It's a bit long (might've got carried away). Back story (i made most of this up on the spot): The year is 2021 and The world has reached crisis point. Over population has hit unsustainable levels, there isn't enough food, medicine or housing to go around. Pollution is out of countrol and a dark smog now surrounds most of the world. In the cities; skyscrapers dominate the horizon. A sea of cold grey concrete. A shrine to capitalism. Most of the countryside has been left untouched by the corporate machine, but many people now live there to try and escape massive over population of the drab metropolises. Out of a need for strong leadership most of the western countries in Europe have joined under one single government. (The United Nations Of Europa). At first the new government seemed to be tackling the problems the region faced but it didn't take long for the cracks to start showing.Under the surface things were much worse than they appeared. The Segregation started slowly at first. A new ID system called Class-ID was implemented. Everyone's biometric data was recorded and you were issued with a number. This number signified your status in society based on your respective wealth and assets. It was promoted as a way to ensure the neediest of people received aid first, but after a while, it's true nature became apparent. Certain areas in the city were being cordoned off. Only people with ID number 4/5 could enter these "havens". Inside, the rich could live in luxury while the poor and middle class were left to starve slowly. Once the Class-ID system was fully integrated it didn't take long for the outer-rim areas of the cities and countryside to become ghettoized. There was crime, lack of jobs and gang warfare. Out of this chaos a group was formed: The United Liberation Front. The ULF are a well organised and well funded militia with one aim in mind: Revolution. Splinter cells have emerged throughout the Europa continent. Their charismatic leader; Chase Anderson used to be complicit in the system he now wants to overthrow. Formely the owner of one of the largest coprorations in the world he was a issed a level 5 status and was permitted to live in the havens. For a while, he did this. He got on with his life in luxury. Trying, with every inch of his being to ignore the fate of the people in the outer-rim. One day during a business trip, he was flying over the former Czechrepublic in his private helicopter. With his head rested on the transparent alluminium window he just watched the decaying city below him. He could make out small fires and communes where people were living on the streets. At this moment, he realised that the capitalist machine that has dominated the economy and government for so long, the system that he had flourished in was idealogically abnoxious. He'd always known this deep down, but today it was brought to the surface. No longer would he be a part of a corrupt system that draws money and resources up from the poor to the elite. It was time for someone to stand up agains the tyranny, it was time for action! The next day he drew up plans for the ULF and embezzeled money from his corporation to fund it. He left the havens and joined the starving people in the slums. A few years pass and the ULF now has a huge amount of support. With weapons donated and bought from the former USA they are now a real force to be reckoned with. Under emergency riot legislation, the UNOE (united nations of Europa) commissioned the Eruopa Defence Agency(EDA). They quickly developed into a modern ground army, encompassing the whole region. They were tasked with keeping peace in the city & rural slums and protecting the interests of the rich. At the helm of the EDA is a mysterious and cast iron charicature of a man named Delta Kennedy. Not much is known about Delta but he is famed for being needlessly brutal and un relenting in his duties. Both factions are locked in savage warfare with no end in sight.   5. I disagree Bfranx. I dont have a problem with either side, but if anything all it's done is fracture a small community into a smaller community. Which means less posts and less forum activity. The W3D Hub staff seem like incredibly reasonable people so i can only sumise that they had no other chocie than to do this... that doesn't mean that the end result will be positive though.

  8. Hello Dan, It was lots of small polys, i've actually changed the treads since and they now have a lot less. What modifiers would you reccomend for getting rid of those edges of the turret? Thanks for the advice!
  9. That is slightly annoying from a gamers perspective as it was nice having both games under once launcher but i can see why you've made that decision!
  10. Hey, So i found this thread on BHP by Danpaul (thanks Danpaul!) http://www.bluehellproductions.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=17018 Which is a tutorial for animating Mesh's with WWskin. I was just wondering if this actually animates the tread, as in moves it around the wheels?

  12. Hey Dan, The barrel is optimized and I've remodeled my wheels as cylinders instead of that lathed thing i did. I've now got like 4500 polys including the tracks!
  13. Hey Dan, I've been working on this since I posted the picture and the body of the tank has a really low count now, the issue is still the wheels tbh... I might just have to remodel them as simple cylinders if it's going to be a massive problem... The detail I'm going to add shouldn't boost the polys up too much... Will 7k-8k polys cause a problem in W3D? If you need any concepts for this I would be happy to help Squid, I would love you to help with the concept art, can I send you a PM with my base ideas?
  14. wheeled ren vehicles have gears (is it called gears? idk) dont you think this can be adjusted to your likes? for the tracked vehicles maybe TT could implent gears. or what kind of acceleration you mean? and for those eyecandy dudes, have you ever played playstation one games? they are still damn fun! Racks I still play my mega drive
  15. Hey Racks, I've got the RenX pluigin for 3DS Max. I'm pretty sure most of the guys use it here so i guess it has to work... What i'm asking though is will it cuase a problem that i've used a symmetry modifier? As when i've not got it clicked, it only shows half the tank...
  16. Basically I've used the "symmetry" modifier when making my tank body and turret, will this cause a problem at the rigging stage? Just a little thought that cropped up... Apologies if this shouldn't have been a separate topic.
  17. Heh, this method has reduced my poly count from like 19,000 to 7500 (due to the fact there is 16 wheels) Just a few bits of detail to add then, texture-time
  18. Hey Ack, Thanks for the information, it was an interesting read. The verdict on poly count seems to be that it *can* be used. Tbh I don't have the cash to spend on photoshop at the moment or maybe ever, so I think I'm going to stick with Gimp for now. I appreciate your advice and It just seems I may have to work harder for the same results.

  22. Do tell! well it's set in the not so distant future. Famine, disease & overpopulation are a problem for all major continents now. Countries have combined resources & infrastructure to create mega states. My game is going to be set in the European Megastate "Eurasia". The government are tyrannous and have invested most of the state money into the Eurasian Defence Agency who are arming themselves for an imminent Civil war/Revolution. There are curfews and all human rights charters have been revoked to provide the government forces with more power to exert their will upon the public.The poor are left in ghettos to starve while the rich live well in sectioned parts of the citys. There is a light at the end of the tunnel. A small, but well funded group called the United Liberation Front. They are actively building an army and gaining support throughout the poorer areas. My general idea is that the United Liberation Front will resemble a militia (maybe a bit like the GLA off generals but more well equipped) and the Eurasian Defence Agency will look like futuristic-ish storm troppers. Their uniform will be jet black and regular infantry will all wear gasmasks and will generally look pretty menacing. The equipment the ULF will use will be old russian & eastern european design and the EDA will be using futuristic stuff that i make up. That's the general idea... I've not decided 100% on the faction names yet... i may change them to something better. I think i'm going to call that tank the "Predator Medium Tank" EDIT: Hey AircraftKiller, It appears that technique doesnt work in 3DS MAX 8... either that or i'm doing it wrong. Does this technique have a name so i can go search for how to do it in my version? EDIT AGAIN: Yeah... that was because it was an editable mesh not a poly. Ignore moi
