  1. I don't like where this thread is going if I'm honest, so I feel like I should step in.

So what about stealing the forum database? ;) I remember people were pretty pissed off about that.

The forum database sits in a pretty grey area to be honest. I had access to the credentials for it, so I don't think that it really constitutes as stealing. A good chunk of the content on it was ours as well as APB's so both sides had a claim to it. The two leaders of BHP at the time, Chronojam and I, had equal claim to it in my mind, so splitting it off and getting rid of the bits that weren't ours was well within our rights. Particularly as no formal contract was written up at the inception of BHP.

It is true that you could release all of the Reborn source assets and all that the Reborn team could do is get mad about it, but at this stage in the game there's no real reason to. If you want to make this project, let's open up some dialogue and talk about it rather than acting like kids who don't want to share their toys. One of the points of this community is that we start sharing knowledge to make our games better. If you want to go ahead and make Reborn X, then come and work with us and we can probably help you out with it a bit.

UDK may have been overshadowed by UE4, but if you know uScript like you say you do, then that shouldn't be an issue at all. People are still making great games for UDK and it's a solid engine. We are working on some UE4 stuff in the background, so if you wanted to take a bash at that with us then that's cool too. But lets not fight each other when we're aiming for the same goal: an awesome Tiberian Sun FPS experience. There is a reason why I made sure that I had all of the old Red Alert 2 FPS mods gathered up before we really kicked off AR.

I'm personally pretty excited to see what you've done so far, so I think that if we could work on a collaboration rather than alienation, we'd all be a lot better off as a community. Those are my thoughts anyway.

Sorry that this announcement is a bit late guys, but we're organising another game night that is set to kick off tonight at 8PM (GMT)!

We'll be playing some more Unreal Tournament 2004 like last time, as well as maybe kicking into some OpenRA or other free games that everyone can play! If you have some free time, make sure to stop by for a game or two and say hi! :D

We'll hopefully see you on the battlefield!

  3. But people like you just like to sit in their chair and do nothing while bragging about the old times, So you need an excuse.

My chair is pretty comfy to be fair, but I get your point. I'd like to do something on UE4, but I currently neither have the time or the team to do anything substantial with AR on a next-gen engine. Also there's the fact that I work on games for a living on top of AR, so sometimes I come home feeling pretty drained and not as willing to work on the projects.

There's a few factors that make this decision an incredibly tricky one for me personally.

  4. Hello, soldiers and warriors!

Seeing the tabs up at the top of our web page here, I figured that recreating the Wiki might have a good place between "Members" and "Bug Tracker."

The problem is I'm not a coder, and "how to create a wiki" has taken me only so far.

If someone knows what they're doing and knows how to create a wikipedia code skeleton, then I can resume work on our glorious Wiki project.

I have all the pages intact, and backed up.

This sounds like an epic plan WhiteWolf. I was thinking of getting mediawiki back up and running when possible. We can look into it this weekend if you like?

  5. Glad you like the game guys! The truth behind the Alien is that once the game is bedded in, the Alien is not scripted. It has senses that pick up on noise in the level. So if you hit a wall with the maintenance jack, the Alien will likely come down from the vents and investigate what it was.

the other awesome thing about the Alien is that it learns by doing. So if you use the flamethrower on it for the first time (for example) it will remember for the next time you point the weapon towards it. It'll act a lot more wary and slowly stalk you unless you let your guard down. If you do, it will run full pelt at you like it usually does.

The game was made by a bunch of incredibly talented people and all of the different aspects tie together to create something that's really immersive. We won a BAFTA for the sound recently which really helped hit home the fact that the team had made something incredible!

Fun fact by the way, did you know that the game was originally intended to be third person?

  6. Would you guys be interested in getting a hold of some promotional material and being a part of a W3D street team?

The main problem with the games currently are that they aren't exposed to the public enough. With more people advertising in more communities, we can pull in more players! But to do this we need to get more people involved!

  7.

Nice looking map. Too bad I'll never be able to explore vanilla renegade maps aside the practice skirmish map that comes iwth the game (under). Can't play lan with one player, and have no access to online play with renegade, eh.

Hey Mayerm, you can play one player LAN. You just need to set the maximum players to one. :)

No, been trying that for years. LAN with 1 player just starts the match with controls locked down and "gameplay pending" flashing across the screen.

Uncheck "Dedicated Server" in the hosting options.

  8. If we're talking stolen tech, I think both sides should get spy. more dynamic gameplay, and it would be unfair that only one side has to defend their battle lab (will be in it, right?) from spies. But since it's currently just the allies, what will they get? Chrono Ivan or psi commando? or something new?

This is what we were thinking, however we can cross that bridge when we come to it. The original plan was to have some sort of KGB or Spetznaz operative for the Soviets, but it needs more discussion before we actually take action on it.

How are attack dogs going to be handled? I'm thinking of RA1 where if you had a dog attack a rifle soldier, the rifle soldier shoots the dog, and the dog dies, every time. Is that how it's going to be in AR, or are the dogs here going to be tanky enough to run up to a GI and attack before being killed?

We'll have to balance Attack Dogs to make sure they aren't too frustrating. They should be able to take a few bullets, but they shouldn't be able to kill an infantry in one bite. The man advantage for the attack dog is it's speed, so we've got to make sure that it's health and damage are matched to that.

  9. I will ask the question that is on everybody's mind

    will Tanya have real physics?

Have you guys figured out the chrono tech for infantry?

    Haha, not exactly.

Chrono tech needs another look at, but it was functional a long time ago.

    1. Will secret/stolen tech be inplimented in the game .

    2. If so will both sides recive spy type unites or only the allies .

    3. Will dogs be exesable to both teams ?

    4. Is navy being implimented now , latter or never ?

    5. Have refill/renforcment structures been implimented ? (that compatition that SquidEmpire won )

    6. Have any of you guys played Zero-K it is amazing ! go play now .

    7. How do sand bags work for GI's ? Do they change your armor type , do you recieve less damage from headshots ?

    1. Yes!

    2. Just the Allies currently.

    3. Yes.

    4. Later.

    5. They have been implemented, but they are currently only placeholders.

    6. Nope.

    7. They do change your armour type. GI's are more resistant to everything when deployed!

Never mind, I am thinking of TSR for some reason :D

This is why me and moonsense715 answer the questions. :p

  10. How will nation exclusive units be implemented, like the black eagle, terrorist, tesla tank, sniper, etc. Also, will any custom infantry be added? (by that I mean not in the game it's based on, like APB snipers and Nod Kerubim)

Just to expand on cfehunter's point, At the beginning of every game, a script randomly picks a country for your side to play as. This mean that there will be more variety in the gameplay as you pit the two unique country units/structures/powers against each other. Also, there will hopefully also be a small chance that global war will be triggered, which means that all country-specific units/structures/powers are available in the match,

There are currently no plans to add anything that wasn't in Red Alert 2. Technicians will be going into the game as playable units. We did mull over the possibility of a Soviet Spy, but we have scrapped those plans for now.

Roughly how long do you think it will take until the first release is ready? :)

It's hard to put a time frame on these things because it's dependant on how much free time we have to develop the game. Hopefully maybe soon?

Will there be any graphical improvements made by TT related to the project? :>

Hopefully we'll have normal mapping, specular mapping and gloss mapping. AR is currently running on the latest branch of scripts (scripts 5.0) so we are at the cutting edge of W3D development!

  11. Do you have any burning questions surrounding Red Alert 2: Apocalypse Rising that you are itching to know the answers to? Well now is your chance to get those answers with this incredibly awesome new thread!

Simply ask a question and myself or moonsense715 will try and get back to you as swiftly as possible! It's that easy!

There are no bad questions, so feel free to ask whatever you like as long as it relates to the project!

  12. Hey guys. We're going to start running some more regular updates and when we have content that we can show. We've been working in the background to improve the community rather than the game currently, but that is all starting to change as we shift back onto development.

I'll start up a thread tomorrow where everyone can ask the AR developers anything pertaining to what's happening. That way everyone can get the answers that they so dearly crave!
