  1. Regarding the first link's GPU, the MX150, I'll refer to the handy website notebookcheck.net. This GPU is definitely something I'd stay away from if your goal is to let your girl play Fortnite when she's not busy doing engineer stuff. While it's not great for high-end gaming, it should work just fine for standard classwork and model design. That is, unless she needs to render hugely detailed environments like in Crysis. If that's the case, get a better GPU. The viewing angle isn't something you need to worry about unless privacy is a factor. Google an image of a protractor and imagine the laptop is sitting at the center of the straight line. 178 degrees means if you drew a line to the 178 mark on the curved ruler, you'd be able to see the laptop screen clearly from that point. There are privacy screens you can place on the laptop display if privacy is an issue. Bluetooth, yes bluetooth headphones would work. Bluetooth is also used for some presentation remotes (in controlling powerpoint slides for example). Yes, 32GB RAM is a ton. The Windows 10 operating system only needs 2GB max to run. At 8GB of RAM, that leaves you 6GB just for software and games. 32GB of RAM would let you have probably a hundred instances of AutoCAD open at once. It's very rare to need over 12GB of RAM. SSD stands for Solid State Drive. You'll see a lot of market laptops come with SSD these days in addition to a HDD. SSDs load data a lot faster than a HDD, so when a laptop comes with a SSD, it's usually for the operating system. The tradeoff is a low storage capacity. My desktop comes with a SSD and a HDD. I store all my games on my HDD save for the ones I use most. My desktop is ready to use within 10 seconds of pressing the power button, and load times for my games are always a minute or less.
  2. If you're okay with waiting for shipping, the HP Omen can be customized on the HP website and it's pretty comparable to the Alienware brand. Sounds like you were looking at Alienware due to familiar territory?
  3. In terms of CPU, Intel is the most reliable and common. Core i7 has a larger cache than an i5, which means that it can perform repetitive tasks faster since it will store the calculations to complete said tasks. I never took any engineering classes, but I imagine you'll have a lot of repetitive rendering going on. I'd suggest i7.
  4. Einstein is on the money. For intensive programs like AutoCAD and Adobe, you usually won't have to worry about CPU because the pre-built laptops on the market today already have good CPUs (just look it up before you purchase a laptop you selected--and since she'll likely be multitasking, a multi-core processor would be more helpful). The real decision factors will be in RAM and GPU. Do not, under any circumstances, pick up something with "integrated graphics". Blech. That crap steals video memory from the CPU to be efficient and it's a disaster waiting to happen. Independent graphics card is the way to go, and try to maintain 8 GB of RAM.
  5. Clarification: Evolving does fully heal your Pokemon! If you want to change your roster based on new info, go for it.
  6. Sure you weren't thinking of Munchlax?
  7. Yeah, perhaps. I intend to do some final balancing after signups are closed and everyone has their rosters made.
  8. A base tier will always need 2 VP to evolve, regardless of the strength of the Pokemon. A Tier 1, like Ivysaur, will need 3 VP to evolve into Venusaur. I wanted to simplify the evolution system and let everyone choose Pokemon based on their movesets and favorites rather than the ones that are easiest to evolve.
  9. So, my goal is to start this game on August 26th. If you've been on the fence about signing up or feel like skipping this one for whatever reason, shoot me a PM! I'd been thinking about hosting a Pokemon themed game for a while now and it's been requested by Sunflower and OrangeP47, so I figured why not--especially after Star Wars Mafia made such an inspiration. But even though it's been on my mind for some time, I only started building it last week. If it doesn't look appealing or fun, let me know why and I can add some additional mechanics in exchange for a delay in game start.
  10. After all the scummy things I did in the name of town, you really never thought I was your partner? Oh wait, you did rolecop me first...
  11. Retaliation you might have won if you hadn’t kept caning me. Karma, man.
  12. Done, thanks for your feedback!
  13. Well, they're more complex in the video games. I opted for a simplified version. 50% is a nice tradeoff for the maximum multiplier being only 5.
  14. Damage = ((2.4 * 40 * (50/50) /50) + 2) * ((1 + 1.5) * 2) That's if Squirtle's water gun had rolled a critical. It comes out to 19 DMG, and Charmander starts with 39 HP. Three hits of that would end you, and it would only be worse with evolutions.
  15. Modifier = (Crit(0,1) + STAB) * Type My calculator just rolls between a 0 and a 1 each time I click the button. It doesn't really make that much of a difference unless you have STAB and Type bonus. If you do, your Modifier comes out to 5 which gets multiplied to your initial damage. That can be scary.
  16. But Shade would have won if he hadn't used Ember as his first move. It's useful to do the math yourself for each move before posting your turn, especially since base stats are copied straight from the games. There's a certain strategy in battling in this game, just as in the video games. ..which also means Chansey will be a bitch to kill.
  17. The following is a *proper* battle simulation: Shade939 sent out Charmander (39 HP)! OrangeP47 sent out Squirtle (44 HP)! Turn 1 Turn 2 Turn 3 Turn 4 Turn 5
  18. That's enough for now. The Ausgleich is about to start its new day.
  19. Shade's Squirtle is now at 30HP, and OrangeP47's Squirtle is now at 40HP.
  20. I'm not gonna bother with that tricky crap for the game though. In the video games, sure. Not here. My trusty calculator machine is what I go by and it has order of operations built into it.
