He didn't even respond to me trying to reach out to him. His on/off/on/off/on/off/on/off girlfriend forbids him from playing mafia and apparently watches the board, so I'm guessing they are "on" again and is deciding to hide from everything.

What the actual fuck? Why would she do that?

What Verti60 did was build on the possible roles after each game. Essentially the "new" role was guaranteed to appear in the setup, but several of the older roles had a chance to appear or not be in the game at all.

That's kind of what I ended up doing. Just expanding and tweaking the role sheet as I go.

As Jeod pointed out, the problem with this setup was actually the Conscript roles being so unique so Mafia couldn't pretend to be one of the majority roles in the game.

Although, the biggest thing with Mafia setups is you need vanilla roles for Mafia roles to hide among. Otherwise you can figure out who's role is what based on role abilities instead of scum hunting.

Truth be told, both of these are good points. I'm considering revoking the dig in ability as a result, to ease the pressure on Scum a bit in that regard.

In which case you're playing a completely different style of game then, in which you can't scum hunt as well since you don't know what to look for.

It's still a game of psychoanalysis and logical deduction. Semi-open setups still give you more to work with than completely closed ones.

Yeah, your game had the *possibility* of hidden roles, and the roles were a range, not a "this is for sure how many of each there are" which was probably better.

Oh yeah. The big problem there was that the rolesheet was basically the setup + your role. I've remedied that by adding more possible roles to the sheet (to give you an idea, possible Scum roles jumped from 3 [technically 4 because hidden Confessor role] to 8).

  4. I feel that if there were more possibilities, it'd be harder to use the numbers game to narrow down who's who. I think that contributed heavily to Town being able to get Scum; they knew exactly what roles to look out for (specifically scum roles). If there were more role possibilities than players, it'd probably make it more difficult.

Obscuring stats and the results of shots would do a lot to help scum.

I've thought about that. Have a jammer in play to obscure results until it's destroyed.

That being said, I really don't think it's as much of a game changer as people are saying it is., especially if most of the daykills have a low kill chance.

  6. Holy crap, GG already? I think that's a new record!

This was pretty good, and I do like the setup. I'm proud of myself for nailing scum D1 as well.

I agree with Jeod that we could add more to the setups to increase game length, though it looks like we're going in two different directions. AR Mafia 2 seems to have a storyline, while I'm going to open the floor in TSR Mafia 2 to Neutrals and TPs, within reason. More roles and more mechanics to look out for, all tools in the box to hunt down and root out scum/hide from and screw over town.

    why are we voting ilts?

I refer you to my case.

    Sure.

Here, Snipe tries to claim that Cat5 only argued how the numbers game Shade's playing is good for Town, and accuses him of leaving out the downsides.

These posts, on the same page, preceding iLikeToSnipe, show otherwise. The summary is that "from Shade perspective it makes sense, but from Town perspective it tells us nothing."

Hmmmm, could you be a bit more specific?  I'll reread, but to be fair finding anything on this forum is a bit hard, and I'm assuming since this is a case you're presenting you have the "evidence" handy and know where it is.

    Sure.

Trying to keep up with everything, but I really don't like this. People who miss aren't "effectively cleared" because a town role has a very high chance to miss. There is certainly the statistical argument that they are more likely to be that role, but as we saw last game people can still hit or miss when they're more likely to have the other result. Treating it more than just the percent chance likelihood and wandering into the "confirmed town" territory was wrong then and it's wrong now.

Anyone who misses is more likely to be a conscript, but we're missing another piece of the puzzle. That's the piece mafia has, because they know everybody's alignment already. The only side that gets any close to confirmed is mafia, it gives them a better picture as to who they should try night killing.

Conscripts shooting everyone willy-nilly has a higher chance at killing town than mafia, gives mafia an advantage at finding power roles, and eliminates future kill attempts that could be used against revealed mafia. I'm always sus of Shade, so this doesn't scum read to me for him. Cat5 says he's neutral on it, but his words seem otherwise. His posts about are only about how "powerful" it could be to town while discussing none of the disadvantages.

Scum reading Cat5, but not enough to vote on D1. I'm in favor of a nolynch today.

This is why on an individual level, I don't think Shade firing was so bad for us. But if we start mass shooting, I'm sure more than Conscripts will fire, and then everything will be muddled.

19 hours ago, Category 5 Hurricane said:

Sure, but again it's barely better than a coinflip to get a miss result. Conscripts can get any result, so even if a result appears that isn't a miss, you can't be sure why. Scum could use this to get free shots.

Town power roles might want to hide as a conscript as well.

19 hours ago, Category 5 Hurricane said:

For example, Retaliations stuck result doesn't say a whole lot. Two roles were eliminated as possibilities, but his chance of being scum only increased from 25% to 33%. Tells us next to nothing, though the individual chances of Retal being a town power role might be of interest to them.

  9. Let me put it this way: If it was a trap, I would've ended up swallowing the bait without thinking. I just kinda... did it.

Don't think I'm completely oblivious, though. I did notice that iLikeToSnipe tried to place suspicion on Cat5 but not going for a vote, trying not to draw too much attention to himself. Also, I've read Cat5's posts, and iLTS is way off the mark. It feels a bit too Allied for my taste.

So I hoped people would be active while I was asleep, since there's usually at least a few posts, but I guess not.

Anywho, I guess we will have to continue to stir the pot.  @Killing_You, why did you react as such to Retal's "bluff"?  You weren't directly involved with him before that.

Because I wanted to see if he would actually do it. I've been super busy with dev stuff and somehow forgot that he had already pulled the trigger. He made a threat, and I wanted to see if he was serious.

Actually it worked out perfectly though, with all of the roles getting the standard expected results for their day kills...

Did it, though? Irish got stuck despite only having a 25% chance to do so, and there were a couple of roles that failed a 50/50 coinflip on either the stuck or hit roll (yourself being one of them). Numbers game can only get us so far, but it can carry scum further than town. Let's not do it.
