As has been said, it's normal either way. Cults are terribly hard to balance because they can win so quickly. Without day actions and this number of players, the Cult has the fastest possible win, needing the leader to survive two nights and convert two players. Even a perfect Town play can't win fast enough, unless the Cult leader is among the first two lynches. As such Cults are very swingy. They either win easily or lose hard. There is rarely an inbetween, and as such cults aren't a popular mechanic. Include the dynamic that players don't like having their alignments switched, cults will always leave someone unhappy.

If I'm not mistaken, the only thing preventing Jeod from converting was Retaliation jailing him or his target, or Jeod trying to convert Mafia. On N1 Jeod had a 25% chance of targeting Mafia, mixed with a 25% chance that either Jeod or Jeod's target would be jailed. Meaning overall, something like 18% chance of death, and something like a total chance of 42% that he dies or fails to convert. (I'm not totally sure I'm doing the math on this right, I feel like something is off. Mixing percentages is weird.)

The chances of both would be higher on N2, provided that Retaliation and neither scum were killed or lynched. If either Retaliation or scum are killed, then both of those chances go way down and Jeod's path becomes very easy. Just needs two nights.

Edit I'm also leaving out the chance that the converted target gets NKed or lynched, but that's just too much to factor in over this.

Yeah, and that's precisely why all of the power roles were the way they were. Riot Trooper could stop conversions, Umagon could track them, Cadre could search for the Reaper or Cyborgs, and the Disc Thrower and Rocket Soldier could both stop the Reaper right then and there. Even then, I was worried that the Reaper would be too powerful.

  2. Anyway, regarding early hammer: The reason I like it and why it's a continued feature of TSR Mafia is twofold: It forces people to think about their votes, and it opens the door for Town to end the game early if they believe they know who scum is.  Keeping an eye on the majority is important throughout the day phase and not just the last few hours.

Did you have some kind of past traumatic experience that made you that way? I’m genuinely curious.

None that I could definitively point to. I do know two specific people in my life that absolutely do not shut up about how wrong you are if they think you're in the wrong. My ex-stepdad in particular will literally scream at the top of his lungs in your face, regardless of the circumstances (including your age).

Yeah and like to be perfectly honest reading about it that's a mistake I myself might have made, we talk big about cults but it's been awhile, so I wouldn't sweat it KY.

Honestly, I could SWEAR the idea that cults dying if they target scum was something mentioned several times in the past. Is that not normal, and just something some people have accepted for whatever reason?

  5. Thanks guys. It's largely due to how my mind works. I've gotten to the point where if someone simply points out a mistake, I can take a deep breath and correct it. It's usually emotionally charged rants and continued criticism after the point of response that cause this kind of reaction. I'm slowly getting better, but it's difficult. Thank you all for being patient with that.

GG everyone. I did half call it for once though :v

Don't worry about it @Killing_You, good opportunity to learn and the game was still fun.

Glad you had fun. I've just learned to acknowledge that when every mistake I make requires repeated walls of texts long after I've apologized and pledged to adjust for the future, it's best to just quit.

Now the question is, even after pledging to quit, if I'm still being told how bad the decision was, what do next?

Then may I ask, and I'm sorry to get you involved in the argument, why is it okay for THEM to be catered to but not us?

I was flip-flopping in my head trying not to piss anyone off. Like I said, it was a COLOSSAL fuck up on my part, and I wholeheartedly apologize for ruining the game as a result.

  8. GAME OVERXenpEvE.png

The base personnel corner those who they believe to be the infiltrators, only for them to open fire. Soon after, Nod reinforcements arrive, and the base falls...

FRAYDO, the Elite Cadre, is victorious!
OrangeP47, the Rocket Soldier, is victorious!

An examination of the wreckage reveals what the mysterious Cyborg Reaper was. Apparently, it was sent by CABAL to harvest personnel in order to transform them into cyborgs. It was destroyed before it could do so, thankfully.

    MISSION ACCOMPLISHED

Congratulations to all the Nod players!

    REFLECTION

Overall, I do feel like this setup was marginally better than the last one, though I did drop the ball hard in places. For one, when I implemented the Cyborg Reaper, I was under the impression that cults died when trying to convert scum, and balanced the game around that.

Also, I mishandled the length of N2. Classic case of "If you try to please everyone, you'll please no one."

Still, it was interesting to watch. Updating message with doc links in just a sec!

  9. NIGHT TWO

    D9UzCVp.png

With a pile of bodies to dispose of, including a mysterious wreckage, the base personnel gather around the one they suspect to be the infiltrator. He protests and declares his innocence to his dying breath, a fact which is backed up by his belongings and records.

Mojoman, the GDI Disc Thrower, has been lynched!

With tensions mounting, and defeat imminent, they retire for the night. There is still a way out of this, but they will have to act carefully to achieve it...
