Welcome to Vienna! You have all been invited by the Kaiser to see to it that we can revamp the declining Empire into something new. Despite our victory in the Weltkrieg, we find ourselves in an Empire out of time. The decline has turned into a crisis after the German Empire's Berlin stock market crashed a year ago, throwing the free world into the most horrific economic disaster in history: Black Monday. Germany, our Ally, has been dangerously weakened and overstreched, making it a prime target for the revanchist Syndicalist states in the West. The clock is ticking. This Augleich, after the failure of the one in 1927 where Hungary straight out left, might be our only remaining chance. However, the Kaiser has faith in all of you. Let's make the Empire great again! Some additional background information in video format. I have to commend OrangeP47 for immediately noticing the Kaiserreich setting, good job on that one lad. Like the previous game, Voe will be acting as a co-host in case I'm not able to be around for a night or whenever we feel like we need to post a cvc. I'll drill him a bit more this time to prevent any gun-like shenanigans from arising again. I wish you all a lot of fun palying this game. Known Objectives Your objective is linked to your role’s vision of the Empire. There are three different possibilities, each of them linked with a secondary one. 1. Primary Goal: This is your role’s vision of the Empire. Achieving this goal will win you the game. - Pluralism: The idea to reform the Empire into a Danubian Monarchy in which the different states are all equal. - Status Quo: The idea to retain the Dual Monarchy of Austria-Hungary in which the Austrians and Hungarians are equal above all others. - Abolishment: The idea to abolish the Empire and divide it into multiple independent sovereign states. 2. Secondary Goal: This is your role’s idea on how to best achieve their goal. Achieving your goal this way will add a +1 to your victory score. - Reform: Your role intends to achieve their vision through reform. - War: Your role intends to achieve their vision a bit quicker by winning a civil war. - By any means necessary: Congrats, you have it a bit easier. Stability The stability meter shows how stable the Empire is at any given time. Actions and reforms can affect stability both positively and negatively. Should the Stability go below a certain amount, the Empire will descend into civil war. Keep an eye on the stability meter and see to it that the Empire stays stable during the Ausgleich… or not, depending on your objectives. Political power Political power (now known as PP) is a new mechanic that will provide a limit as to how many actions a player can undertake during a phase. This to compensate for the many different actions in the game, the lazy moderators, and to prevent another instance of an overpowered utility belt. The standard limit per day and night phase is 2 PP and the standard action tax is 1 PP. This means that you can use up to 2 PP during both the day and night. Each phase, you will regain 2 PP, although you won't be able to gather more than your personal limit. There are different ways as to how a person can gain additional political power. Which ones? You will have to find out for yourself. Passing reforms Passing reforms is part of the order of the day and night. During the day, you will all vote on a category of reforms. These are: Economic, Political and Military. At the end of the day phase, the category with the most votes will produce a new reform on which a variant can be voted on during the night. Because we are nice and follow the rules of democracy, voting on the reform variants will happen anonymously during the night. Voting on a category will cost 1 PP. Voting on a reform variant will also cost 1 PP. You vote on a category by using ##Reform <Political/Economic/Military> The vault and evidence base As with the previous game, we have an item vault as well as a modified evidence base. During the day, a player can be voted on to be allowed into the vault with ##VoteNominate <Player Name> (1PP). The vault holds the items, which can be taken and in which players can deposit their items if they so wish it. The evidence base is off limits to anyone that doesn’t have a key. Players can check up on a player’s actions and can use examples of unlawful activity to build a case on a player. Should a player have a case on him, he will be able to be jailed during investigation. Additional actions may be available though. It appears that we're pretty sure that Voe is scum. Investigations and lynching There is no lynching in this game. We’re beyond such a barbaric concept now. Instead we use the ##VoteInvestigate (0PP) action to take a look at a player. Investigating will uncover a player’s name, nationality, current status as either innocent, suspicious or hostile, and other relevant and irrelevant information. Innocent players will be freed immediately and will only provide some of their personal information. Suspicious players will spend one night in solitary, meaning that they're blocked during the night. All items of interests will be placed in the vault and will not be returned the following day. A hostile result means that the player will spend the rest of his days in prison, being blocked from actions and will lose all items, which are then placed in the vault. All information about the player will be revealed. (He’ll be eliminated from the game.) Civil war Should stability get below a certain threshold, the nation will descend into civil war. The teams are, as of yet, undecided and anything can affect the starting positions and the stability threshold of the civil war. How does it work? That’s something we’ll hopefully never need to explain. Signups Beyond all the game specific rules, standard mafia rules will apply. So only two posts at night, hammers can happen. You know the drill! Please note that the game set-up is, once again, experimental and I cannot guarantee flawless balance. But I do hope that you will all have as much fun playing the game as I had creating it! Sign-up's will end on the 22nd of July. The game is optimised for 10 players, but more are possible. 01. Hi everyone! We're currently actively looking for talented hobby programmers to join our code team! Who are we? Just in case you didn't know already, since 2015, W3D Hub has been the authority on developing game projects for Command & Conquer Renegade's W3D Engine! Building off the back of the now-defunct Bluehell Productions, W3D Hub has served to unite the majority of the fractured W3D Engine modding scene into a single community from where we can continue to assist each other and grow. Over the years we have cultivated a strong infrastructure and knowledge-base that continues to expand and evolve every year. We have built our team with developers who have a large amount of experience creating mods in the W3D game engine; some of whom have been actively developing content ever since Renegade was released back in 2002. The W3D Hub community is welcoming and is home to a plethora of developers and fans from all walks of life. We are a satellite team, so many of us are scattered across the world; despite this though, we do our best to maintain a high level of communication using tools such as Slack, Invision Power Board, Trello, TeamSpeak and Discord. We are a strictly non-profit organisation due to the IP we work with, so we run the community as a hobby. Our mission statement is to preserve the knowledge of how to develop games using the W3D Engine, as well as to create projects that push the envelope in what the engine is capable of. Recently we have been working on a replacement for the game's primary editor, Commando Level Edit. The new editor, "Mammoth", has been written from scratch which allows us a high degree of flexibility when developing new content. What games do we make? Now a lot of you guys already know this, but it's useful to reiterate! We currently house and develop several projects that use Renegade's W3D Engine. These include Red Alert: A Path Beyond, Expansive Civilian Warfare, and Tiberian Sun: Reborn. Red Alert: A Path Beyond (which is based on the original Red Alert) is currently released and receives healthy player counts on our organised game nights. Through our server-side plugins we have been able to tie statistics and achievements into the game which allows players to see how they stack up against each other. Here's a trailer for Red Alert: A Path Beyond Why Renegade? C&C Renegade's W3D Engine is an enigma of sorts. Around the time when the Unreal and Quake engines were popular, Westwood Studios released C&C Renegade, a game with mixed reviews that didn't do too well financially. The singleplayer left a lot to be desired; the multiplayer however, was a completely different story. Two teams attempt to destroy each others bases with infantry and vehicles that are purchased using credits from an RTS-style resource system featuring harvesters and refineries. To this day there has not been a game that has come close to emulating the unique experiences found in C&C Renegade. It's worth pointing out that Renegade X remade and expanded on the core Renegade experience, but our aim takes Renegade in a different direction by experimenting with new gameplay features that require a step away from the Renegade formula a little bit in order to achieve. For the time, Renegade's W3D engine was actually very advanced; featuring very robust vehicle physics, tessellation, flood-fill pathfinding, as well as a robust AI conversation/dialog and action system that allowed for fairly complex AI interactions (for the time). When the game was released, a modding SDK was released that allowed modders an incredible amount of creative freedom. Artists could model, rig and export their own assets into the game and programmers could script custom logic for gameplay objects. Over the years, knowledge of the engine has developed to a point where we have managed to reverse-engineer a significant portion of the code base. This means that the engine itself is more flexible than ever and has allowed us to really push the boundaries in terms of what features we can put into our various games. We still develop on this engine today because it's fun and we have a good amount of flexibility with what we want to accomplish for each game. The engine is also fairly easy to develop for which allows for rapid iteration on a large scale. What are we looking for? We are currently looking for seasoned hobby programmers who are looking for a new challenge, as well as newer programmers that are looking for some experience working on games and mod projects. We are strictly a non-profit organisation, so we don't offer any kind of salary however, our community is a constant base where no work will ever go to waste. Too often, mod and game projects are created that don't see the light of day. By providing a community platform to support the W3D engine and its associated projects, we protect ourselves from ever being in the position where we are forced to abandon our projects, as the theory is that there will always be caretakers around to maintain and curate them. Here's what we are looking for skills-wise: Essential Qualities - All of the following are preferred: Intermediate to High level of C++ programming knowledge. Working knowledge of Visual Studio 2017 for Windows Development. Working knowledge of Git repositories. Good communications skills, being as we are a satellite team. A passion for video games and programming. Desirable Qualities - Any of the following are preferred: An interest in Command & Conquer or Frank Herbert's Dune would be nice, but is not necessary. A friendly attitude and the ability to work well with others. Experience reading existing code (particularly code related to graphics engines) and understanding what it does and looking at what it does, as well as being able to write technical documentation about it. Knowledge of how to profile code to find out where slowdowns are (and identifying how to make code faster or better on memory use, especially math heavy code). Experience with reverse engineering with IDA (x86 assembler and HexRays output). Experience with Direct3D 11 (including HLSL and programmable shaders) as well as other graphics-related features such as anti-aliasing and screen filtering. Good 3D Math skills including boxes, lines, frustums, vectors, matrices, quaternions, collision detection math, curves and splines. Knowledge of physics types and how to create/edit them (e.g. Fixed Wing Aircraft, Walkers/Mecha etc.). Knowledge of the FMOD sound engine. Knowledge of font rendering. Why should you join us? Joining W3D Hub presents a unique opportunity as our mission to unite C&C Renegade mod developers under one banner continues onward, so here's a few reasons why you should consider joining us. If you're a fan of the Command & Conquer series who is looking for some fun projects to work on. if you're looking for a new programming challenge. If you want to have a hobby you can enjoy and put on your résumé/CV at the same time! If you're looking for the unique opportunity to work with Renegade's W3D engine and build upon it's code base. If you're looking for a reliable team that won't fall apart as well as projects where your work won't go to waste. If you're looking for new friends (inside and outside of the games industry) who enjoy developing and playing games together. How to apply! If you wish to join our team, please send an email to jonwil, our lead programmer, at jfwfreo@tpgi.com.au and let him know why you're interested in joining us as well as what skills you can offer! Hopefully, with your help, we can further development of C&C Renegade's W3D Engine! It is with a heavy heart that I bring this news. I awoke this morning to the news that zunnie is no longer with us. A well-known gamer and founder of MPF, zunnie was a friend to all persons he had met throughout his life. zunnie has done a lot for the Renegade and MPF community and will be greatly missed. This is a terrible loss for us all. Our condolences go out to his family and loved ones. May he rest in peace. For me, my biggest issue with Siege is the cannons. I've mentioned it before but I recall being summarily dismissed. I think they are far too effective as base razing due to where they're positioned, seeing as only infantry or artillery can damage it in any way. It feels cheap seeing as you probably already have lost control of mid for the enemy team to get that far forward. If you haven't already lost mid, you'll probably lose itas a consequence since you either need to hang back to repair; grab an arty unit and hanging back to snipe it, but also at immediate un-dodge-able of being 1-hit killed by the cannon yourself; or use inf to get up to it, but pray that you won't be pummelled by the vehicles holding mid as you try to get to and run up the slopes to reach the cannon. That's my feeling of Siege anyway (Hello me @Fegman891 in the logs).1 like

Oh man, that is sad news. I had some brief engagements with him over W3D/Renegade related things. He was a very spontaneous man with a lot of crazy ideas, and seemingly his modus operandi was to always "try a bunch of things quickly and see what sticks". You could turn your back to him for a moment and then return to witness a whole bunch of crazy shit happening. This spontaneous behavior always put Zunnie at odds with people who did things more "carefully", and it is why he was sometimes a challenge to work with. But one thing is clear: He had a lot of fun doing what he did, and I dare say he knew how to have fun with development much better than most people did. I have no idea what he worked on at MPF, I do hope he had fun doing it... Ultimately that is all that matters, right?1 like
