Also, while it is smarter to hang unto the day kills till later on in game, and it becomes more obvious who Nod could be.

You also have less day kills to use later on and a kill on a person who used their day kill is less valuable.

There's also some consideration to the fact that you can help figure out a characters role based on what result they get for using their day kill.
