  1. The only game that really pulled off both RTS and FPS aspects was Battlezone 1998. This game and to a lesser extent, it's sequel BZII were absolutely golden games and my second experience to the FPS Genre. It still has a relatively small community playing it, but enough of one that the original game and it's expansion got a remaster from rebellion who now owns the rights to the franchise. This is one of the few true remasters, as the original game is almost completely untouched. Though, the aspects of the game that made it a bit quirky on modern OS's and resolutions (the 600x800 Max res for the main menu because it's actually a completely different shell) were changed to make it a bit less '98 and a bit more '09. And that's true for the graphics as well, as it uses a DX9 rendering engine now. That being said, I shouldn't be advertising the game. My point is, the renegade engine would need a ton of work to get base building in the mods, and then you're left with the balance issues that would cause, as matches could easily last 1-2 hours. Plus, one person would almost always be needed to harvest ore because there's only one AI truck per team. Not only that, but Battlezone works because the barren landscapes of space make it work. Earthy, vegetated environments make this much more difficult as the decision to build would be not only based on what you want but if you have room. The levels just aren't designed with this in mind. A compromise could be made to where an AI brain determines what buildings to build. Or even more of a compromise, Infantry gameplay could be encouraged early game by scripts building each building as the maps play out. But then you still run into the problems with VIS. Still, if you want a good game centered around shooting things and building a base, Battlezone 98 redux is only $20 on steam. It still looks a bit dated, and it's definitely got the 90's era clunky command menu, but it's well worth a play.
  2. Well, if we do 1953, then we can let the second Sino-Japanese war last a bit longer especially considering that the U.S. would not have had nuclear weapons to force the Japanese to surrender. That, plus the homeland advantage and the fact that it's an island nation with a very stubborn people could easily make the war last a good 2-4 years past the 1945 date that it ended in our timeline with the right conditions.
  3. Well, how about a poll? This is one of the most active communities of RA1 fans out there, and sometimes a community decision is a good way to settle conflicts. I'm sorry that your first experience with RA was the hollywood YR mission. I'm much the opposite. Red Alert was my first PC game (well, it was my dad's game, but he never played it) It enamored me very quickly and is one of the reason's that I'm a huge history buff now. The CG was top-notch to me and the cutscene briefings were extremely well done and directed and most of the tech actually existed.
  4. Also, I guess it comes down to how detailed we want to be.
  5. I don't mind the quote system so much, but most of the time if I'm addressing multiple statements/people I just use the @username moniker. My only real rebuttal this time is on tech. Now, keep in mind that this can be taken with a grain of salt, as with most wiki's, but the CNC wiki states that the GWWII doesn't start until the 1950's (though an exact date isn't given on this page). However, there are a few more points that I would like to point out. The other "unused" superweapon in RA1 is Sarin Gas. In our timeline, NATO and the USSR began using the gas as the "standard issue" chemical warfare weapon. This gas was discovered by 4 German Scientists in 1938. Now we're back on the topic of economics. The economic climate in western countries is a disaster and there are sure to be Soviet spy's waiting for the right information. Due to the disastrous economy, the growing soviet influence, and few if any buffer states to prepare against an attack, Germany (and thus the rest of the Allied nations) begin focusing most of their remaining funds on weapons tech, leaving these 4 scientists out in the cold for funding on most of their efforts and their discovery of the gas went unheard as most of the funding went into more defensive weapons research (gap gen) and time-vortex (chrono) technology. Thus, after being contacted by a Soviet Spy under leadership by Nadia, they begin working for the Soviet Union. However, they discover the less effective triethalymine structure first, leading to Stalin's desire to postpone the production until Gradenko's tests just before the start of RA1. This combined with the fact that Einstein has very little to do with Nuclear weapon's research in the RA timeline seems to suggest that many of the scientists researching the Manhattan project in our timeline defected to the much more stable soviet union. Leading to a small pre-war arms race. This also can help explain why nuclear weapons aren't nearly as devastating in RA1 and how no one is really concerned with mutually assured distruction. As far as RA2 is concerned, I actually preferred it over tiberian sun, but I preferred TD and RA1 over both of their sequels. I'm not a huge fan of the 80's B-movie action cutscenes and prefer the more "official" nature of the briefings given to you in the original games. That being said, RA1 (thanks to the multiverse theory) can be the precursor to both games, thanks to westwood's cancelled CNC3. The Tiberium universe is actually really well fleshed out, thought I do have an issue with the use of Mech's in TS, due to their unwieldly nature and Murphy's laws of war (Don't look conspicuous; it draws fire). That being said, before we approach another RA game's lore, we need to finish this one and come to an agreement. Which, we mostly have. It's just economics, tech, and dates. 90% if history in a nutshell.
  6. HELLO ORANGE! It's good to see another lore-head. I really enjoyed your much more detailed response here and I always enjoy a good thread necro (lol). So, first off, I do want to make my appreciation lore-wise clear as what you have posted filled in some of the holes that my posts fail to fill in. That being said, there are a few problems with your theory one of which NoSoldier pointed out. Before the GWWII, there was the second sino-japanese war. The US got involved due to growing fears of Japan's growing interest in Allied holdings in S.E. Pearl Harbor happens, but sooner in 1941 thus giving the proper provocation to enter the conflict. The Soviet Union also stood to gain from both a Japanese or Communist Chinese victory, so they publicly struck a deal with Japan while secretly aiding the CCP and Nationalist Parties, with the majority of this support going to the CCP. This way, the Soviet Union would come out with a victory no matter what happened. Australia may have been used as a staging point for US troops, as well as offering official support for the British Commonwealth. Ultimately, this would end up with a US invasion of mainland Japan. The US economy most likely recovers about a year into the war. All of this is a preface to fill in the holes for super-weapons. Because of the growing Soviet threat, Europe was already researching advanced technology with research into photon manipulation and atomic power/weaponry going on well before the start of the war. However, because of the 2nd Sino-Japanese war and some "recruiting" by the much more financially stable USSR, many of these scientists either moved to those countries or began to accept funding from them in exchange for technological advances. That's how the Soviet Union got the footage of the chronosphere in action and how they also developed nuclear weapons. The US's tank technology became far more advanced during this time, with the M24 chaffee (equivalent) becoming the standard due to it's light size and modular turret. It could be either a bunker buster or a flamethrower tank depending on the needs of the mission. The first helicopters were in production well before the war, with surveillance needing a less visible platform to keep an eye on Soviet advancement, with UH-1's becoming standard by the 1940's. However, due to the limited utility of the UH-1 in island hopping (as it has limited passenger/cargo capacity and even more limited use as a gunship during this timeline) the US for-goes the UH-1 for the CH-47 platform for transport and AH-64 platform for gunship roles. The CH-47 was left behind to the Chinese Nationalists for further production and were handed to the USSR post-CCP takeover. Radar guided SAM systems would become commonplace on US destroyers in order to help combat the relatively superior Japanese Air Force and their nimble Zero. This means a dramatic shift in the focus of the US and allied forces air-power as it shifted from dog-fight focused nimble aircraft to short-range CAS and transport aircraft. Assuming that the Allied victory is Cannon. It was discovered that the M24 platform light-tank was unsuitable for the open-field warfare of Eastern Europe Thus the development of the Leopard and Abrams platform with the Leopard platform ultimately seeing more use towards the end of the war (thus the RA2 Leopard tanks in moscow image during the installation). The Photon manipulation research ended up producing the gap generator and the phase tank. The chronosphere was a continuation of Einstein's research into time travel. And the short-range nuclear missile tech came to be known on both sides. The Iron Curtain was stolen from Nikola Tesla but ended up becoming a rushed technology that was a successful failure. The initial goal was to create a device deployable on each soviet tank that would create an electromagnetic force-field around each tank individually. However, it was soon discovered that the Iron Curtain was too power-hungry for a tank's engine to maintain power to without blowing the engine. To combat this flaw, it became a base or FOB operated device that could lock onto multiple tanks and create a field around them. However, this would quickly drain a base's power reserves so it was given a time duration-based operation time limit and a recharge so as not to compromise the base's security and defense. I also agree with your points on RA2, as it seems like a step backwards for the Soviet union to fore-go the AK platform for the less advanced and more expensive and less powerful PPSH platform for their primary weapon during the GWWIII. But, these issues can also be addressed soon.
  7. Dammit. I literally go into work at that time.
  8. My story is actually fairly simple. My first experience with online multiplayer was Call of Duty 2. I made my name "slowlysnipe" on there. When I got my gaming laptop in 2012, planetside 2 was still a pretty big force in the FPS industry. But when I made my account on SOE, I didn't realize that it would make me name my individual characters. It also would not let me use my SOE name as my character name. So, I tried devil. didn't work. Then I tried devilslayer. Taken. Then I tried devilslayersbane. and it worked. Since then I switched my steam nick, and all of my forum names have been devilslayersbane.

  12. I consider myself to be Catholic, though I disagree with some of the Church's views. As far as Bible's go, the one that most protestant faiths (at least in the U.S.) use is the King James Bible, as it was the first English translation. With the Duoay-Rheims Bible following shortly after for the Catholic Church. The biggest differences between a Catholic Bible and Protestant Bible is that King James left out a number of books from the original Latin/Hebrew texts. These are: Tobit, Judith, 1 and 2 Maccabees, Wisdom, Sirach, Baruch, parts of Esther and parts of Daniel. According to Wikipedia, these books are found in Eastern Orthodox bibles, but not in Protestant. I got about halfway through the old testament during Basic Training. My favorite book so far is Ruth. It's short and rather uplifting.
  13. As a 2.1.2 arrival, I must say it's nice to see another former player come back into the fold.

  15. I may have some models that could be 3d printed, if you're interested. Some of them are off the wall, but some of them look really nice.
  16. How about using some of the superweapon logic here? Essentially, there's a terminal in the rather useless upstairs of the CY where you can buy a "building repair beacon" that has a 2-min timer before it completes the process. This beacon would also be able to be disabled by enemy technicians and engineers. Once finished the building would come back online with about 30% health, requiring an technician or engineer to fully repair it. It should work only when placed within 5 meters of the MCT.
  17. Blitz Mode sounds a lot like the Wargame RTS style. Pick a deck of units pre-game, deploy starting units, then use your units and remaining cards to the best of your advantage. The only thing that may be different is that Territory control determines the economy in wargame, and you have caps on the total amount of a certain unit you can deploy in a single match.

  19. Einstein, could you take care of the derailing responses from MPRA2 and FRAYDO? Thx. As far as your last response Jeod, that definitely was mentioned pretty early on in the the soviet RA1 campaign, but there may have been less official involvement from the USSR, like we saw in our timeline with Vietnam. Remember that pre-WWII, China was already on the brink of civil war with the Communists and the Nationalists at each other's throats. Japan's invasion postponed that, so what may have happened, considering the events is that a strategic deal may have been struck where the U.S. would keep it's S.E. Asian holdings in turn for working with the USSR to eliminate the threat that Japan had on them and the USSR's holdings. This would become an uneasy partnership because it would mean the US agreeing to letting specific countries (Laos, cambodia, vietnam, China maybe, NK) annex into the Eastern block as it existed into the RA-pre GWWII universe. Essentially, the US-USSR agreement would look like this: 1. The US, USSR, and China would all work together to repel the Japanese invasion of mainland asia. 2. The US would limit involvement into SE Asian politics postwar. 3. The USSR would not directly intervene during communist revolutions and only accept new members when they came willingly into the fold (Post-Sino-Japanese war China, AKA, Gradenko's biggest achievement). 4. The US would be allowed to keep it's holdings in the Pacific and SE Asia. 5. The US and USSR would not go into a direct conflict with each other for an established period of time. This war, due to the lack of nuclear weapons, would not have forced a Japanese surrender and would have likely ended up with a mainland invasion of Japan with the U.S. leading the charge (the Chinese would be too invested in rebuilding to send too many troops and the USSR would have wanted to prevent US involvement when they invaded Europe). This would explain the Arizona and Iwo Jima monuments existence later on in the RA timeline and would give more of a reason as to why the US wouldn't have intervened when the USSR invaded Western Europe. After the fall of the USSR during RA1, the US would break this truce after setting up Romanov as the Premier.
  20. Originally, I downloaded apb 2.1.2 because I thought it had a campaign... Lol.
  21. This may be true for RA2, However, the Chinese Communist revolution didn't end until 1949. Though, it could be argued that it would have ended much sooner than 1949. And considering the fact than an American-Japanese war did in fact happen (screw you RA2 for not allowing divergence to happen too much), it's likely that US intervention in China would have continued to stabilize the region. Also, considering the fact that the U.S. was involved in China in order to gain and maintain a large, powerful ally in the east, they probably wouldn't have let China go as easily. Especially considering the U.S.'s much more limited involvement in the GWWII.
  22. I'd be up to ally myself with another clan. Just need the time 2 weeks in advance.
  23. I think 8 pellets (#00 buck) is fine for the standard fire. I think the reason the Shotty is so effective is A: It's extremely easy to close the gap between you and your enemy and most people want to (whether you have a captain or sergeant). The only thing I see is that there's very little benefit to longer range firefights for most other infanty, as there's no ballistic simulation that carry's the rounds past the designated range. That being said, the Shotgun is supposed to be a an excellent short-range weapon and a damn good mid-range weapon. The Grenadier, flamethrower, and rifle soldier (alt-fire for soviets) should all have a decent chance against an allied sergeant. As for the Starshina, any medic-rifle/cap/sergeant/tanya combo should be more than enough to take on one or two of them. Nerfing their armor penetration removes makes it easier for them to be killed. I think that nerfing their heavy/light vehicle armor penetration would be fine.
