W3D Hub Tiberian Dawn: Ground Zero Update #1
Killing_You posted a topic in Tiberian Dawn: Ground Zero
Hello, one and all! Welcome to the first development update for Tiberian Dawn: Ground Zero! Well, sort of. It's more of an outline for our plans for the infantry. But hey, infantry will be a big deal in the game, plus outlining the design is a stage of development, so it counts! Plus, this will help serve as a handy guide for when you deploy on the battlefield! The BasicsTiberian Dawn: Ground Zero is designed to be a "tactical shooter." What does this mean? Rather than the high-octane arcadey action of previous W3D Games, Ground Zero will have a higher focus on strategy, teamwork, and observational skills. Ranges will be longer, weapons will be deadlier, and everything has a counter. A swarm of anti-tank infantry, for example, will get decimated by a complement of anti-infantry and support units. Battlefield assessment will be key. The ClassesUnlike previous W3D games, infantry will be split into "classes," each with their own defined roles in combat. These different classes will be represented by the classic types of infantry from the original game, with a new addition. TD had a rather limited (and heavily Nod-favored) roster, so we decided that this route was the best option to avoid major balance issues. GENERAL PURPOSE The backbone of each military, the Minigunner is the standard deployment outfit, and will be the class that you spawn with. Their primary weapons are assault rifles; the GAU-3 (fictional weapon based on the Calico M951) for GDI, and the M16A3 for Nod. They will also have a limited supply of fragmentation grenades (M67 for GDI, M61 for Nod) for tougher targets. This will allow them to reliably engage any foe, though specialized classes would be better suited for certain situations. ANTI-TANK While vehicles won't get the same amount of focus that they did in the past, they'll still feature quite prominently. And even when they don't, the enemy base will almost certainly have defenses up. Thus, the Anti-Tank Rocket Soldiers will be your best friends. Armed with a SMAW or RPG-29 (for GDI and Nod, respectively), armored vehicles and base defenses will crumble to dust at the hands of these soldiers. Both sides will also have access to an FIM-92 Stinger for all your flyswatting, Anti-Air needs! DEMOLITION The object of the game is simple: Destroy the enemy base. And nobody excels at this task quite like the Demolition class. In addition to taking down main structures, these soldiers will also be good at crowd control, so if you find yourself going head-to-head with one of these, you and your squadmates would do well to spread out. In addition, they are likely to explode on death. One does not simply carry around volatile weaponry without risks, after all. GDI Demolition units will be armed with the Milkor MGL, while Nod favors the sinister Flamethrower. SUPPORT Yes, you read that right. The Medic will be added to the game, fighting for GDI, and the Chem Warrior will play the role of Support for Nod. How does this work, you may ask? I'm glad you asked! The Medic will be fairly standard; armed with a UMP-45 and a Medkit for healing his fellow soldiers. It's a fairly common setup at W3D Hub, sure, but it works rather well. As for the Chem Warrior, don't worry, he'll still have his namesake chemical sprayer. In addition to that, he will be able to administer healing serums to his comrades, perhaps with a touch of damage reduction. The basic idea is that, while the difference will hopefully be within reasonable territory, the Chem Warrior will be better at killing infantry, while the Medic will be better at healing. ENGINEER Engineers will play a far more involved role on the front lines than ever before. Rather than packing a measly pistol, they will be armed with shotguns. The M3 Super 90 for GDI and Mossberg 500 for Nod, specifically. No need to switch classes to chase off intruders! In addition, they will be able to place (and remove) anti-tank mines, possibly even sandbag walls and hedgehogs! This will make them ideal for defending key areas, fortifying a besieged base, or even setting up an impromptu forward outpost. And, yes, they will be able to repair the base and capture tech structures. COMMANDO It wouldn't be a game based on Tiberian Dawn without the iconic Commando, would it? While costly, this powerful unit will pay for itself in no time at all. They will be able to scout the battlefield and remove infantry based threats from a far, before infiltrating a building, fighting his way to the Master Control Terminal with suppressed PDWs, and finally leveling the building with a block of C4. It's not likely that you'll see him, but when he shows up, his presence will be felt. GDI will outfit their commandos with the MSG90 and MP5SD, while Nod will rock the G3A4 and Škorpion. TECHNICIANS Oh, you didn't think we'd leave them out did you? But you see, W3D Hub, you're not dealing with the average Technician anymore. He has risen above the limits of a normal technician, and into the realm of legend- the legend that you fear. The legend known throughout the entire universe as the most powerful unit to ever exist! He has become... the Legendary Super Technician! Nah, just kidding. They will be your standard free repair units. Armed with pistols (specifically the Beretta 92FS for GDI and Walther P99 for Nod) for self defense, and of course, repair tools. Conclusion We hope you enjoyed our very first exciting development blog! Next time... maybe vehicles? How does a breakdown of vehicles sound? Yeah, let's do that. -
[thumb]thumb_ia.1.png[/thumb][blurb]Interim Apex is now on the W3D Hub launcher! Check it out now![/blurb]W3D HUB PROUDLY PRESENTS: Created by Kaskins(Yap) and dblaney1 You heard right, Interim Apex is now available on the W3Dhub launcher. Interim Apex began its life as the popular Renegade mod Imperial Age, and has since become wholly different and unique experience through the efforts of dblaney and Kaskins. Interim Apex is what I had hoped the original Renegade would be, with its unique approach to the engine that makes you feel as though you really are inhabiting the boots of a soldier on the front lines for Nod or GDI. Featuring whole new maps, well detailed vehicles, expansive new base buildings, naval combat, and even the ability to build your own obstructions and base defenses. I hope you'll be as amazed as I was when I first stepped in game. Communication Centers - These buildings allow you to research new technologies or buffs for your entire team that can give you the edge you need to be victorious on the battlefield Construction Yard - Just like in the RTS games , the construction yard isn't just for show. While it is still operational, you can rebuild a destroyed building for a hefty fee. Naval Facility - Many maps feature a naval yard in close proximity to your base. Capture it, and rule the high seas with insurmountable firepower. Losing your original base defenses is no longer a death sentence! With enough cash, you can utilize a Sapper or Pioneer to build rudimentary defenses and barricades to keep on the defense, or to hold down checkpoints. Playing support is a vital role for your team which will help mitigate enemy attacks on your journey towards victory. Captain massive battleships that feature dozens of guns, all controlled by AI with the option to manually choose targets. There is nothing quite like this in Renegade! Utilize a trusty bridge layer to get your team to where it needs to be! They can be used to create shortcuts to the enemy base, ease passage, or to open up routes to valuable tiberium! There are other support vehicles such as the mammoth recovery vehicle, which will help you repair destroyed tank husks, vehicles, and buildings at an incredible speed. Tiberium has had years to rapidly mutate organisms, drastically changing the earth's ecosystems. There are many different types of tiberian fauna on some maps; from visceroids to veinhole monsters. Some of the others, you'll just have to get acquainted with yourself. Furthermore, tiberium fields visually grow and deplete over the course of the game Interim Apex is a fantastic addition to the W3DHub lineup and provides a unique experience that we hope you'll all enjoy. Download it via the launcher, and join the one and only official Interim Apex server in the community and see what the tiberium age has to offer!
-
Why did you guys allow Interim Apex to be a part of the w3dhub launcher? It is not a stand alone mod, it is Renegade. You can join the server right from your Renegade client. The only thing you've done is give it publicity, and jacked Rencorner and MPF's playerbases in less than a day by using this launcher. People go where it has more players, that server sat empty for 2 years. The only fairness I see is allowing Renegade overall to be apart of that, as this launcher is just installing Renegade split up...twice.

Got some news for you folks! Seems we have taken on plenty of hires onto our Staff team, some new faces and some familiar ones! This post here is our quick run-down of them! Since rediscovering our community, Coolrock has rejoined the Staff to help out with PR and various other things. In fact, since being here he has been out on a successful hunt tracking down oldbies from all corners of the Internet! Check our Discord server and you'll see some names like steppo, drunkill, Vader6, and many others from yesteryear! Good Evening all. A long time ago I came across a website concerned with C&C and there were actual pictures of the Rank that you were given (I wish I remembered the name). Now I know you guys certainly don't have enough on your plate with ECW, APB, and Reborn.... But it got me to thinking and I honestly loved the way it looked. I fixed some pictures with possible image rankings for you all to see and get a feel for. Ideas for implementation. - The pictures are just to show a general picture or what it would look like. The size of the icons and units can be adjusted according to how you guys see fit. - You can go two different paths for ranking. Allied or Soviet Units. You are also able to change your picture (More appropriately icon) to past ranks. So if you really like the Engi you can change it even though your rank is a Medium Tank. - If you don't want the rank image on your profile you can switch it to have the current theme or layout. - When you rank to max level with the max level of posts you unlock the option of Tanya, Volkov, Phase Tank or Demo etc. - Admins are able to access a special rank of missile silo if they desire. - Only Staff or Mods can have access to Flame Towers/Tesla Coil Defenses - If concerned with Shitposting/Spam you could possibly have the rank image tied into your Rep. which encourages better posting and discourages posting just to raise your rank. - Uploading texture, sound or map files could grant some extra rank somehow. Possibly encouraging more files or download base and customization for the games. - Could have it possibly tied to a system where if you donate to the site/server you unlock special icons such as Demo, M.I.G., Forklift, M.A.D. Tank, Spy or a Pink Mobile Radar Jammer or maybe the icons have animations. This encourages donations, gives way to new ideas, and still keeps people who don’t donate relevant with normal units (medium tank, Rifle Inf, light tank, engi) so they don’t get screwed. I would gladly donate $10 to get a M.A.D. Tank for my icon just because. - I don’t know the system of this forum and how flexible it is or if this can even be done but its a start. - Possibly later if the idea is favorable then you could have Tiberian Sun Icons for the Tiberian Forums and RA 2 Icons for Apoc Rising etc. I understand its a little nitpicky but I think it looks great. I would love to help any way I could if the idea goes through as there are more important matters atm but let me know what you think.

Hmm, this may be a bit of a long post. I originally intended to write to you and give you all the heads-up on our moderation changes, and then I added more. So! Moderation Restructure 2017, new forum rules, Mafia Hub, and a shout out to our friends at CNCNZ.com! Also introducing Tester of the Month! Moderator Restructure Our moderation team has been restructured and reorganised into three tiers. The tier list looks like this: Staff Moderator Full Moderator Game Server Moderator For a brief rundown of who does what, Staff Moderators moderate staff members and basically everything else; from our forums and our games, to the Discord and TeamSpeak servers. Full Moderators moderate the forums, game servers and our TeamSpeak and Discord. Game Server Moderators moderate the game servers and the game server forums. In addition to that, we also have Lead Moderators appointed to our sections: Forum: @Pyryle is still the main point of contact, but all members of the Staff Moderator group share this responsibility between them as well, since the forum is a big place. Game Servers: @triattack TeamSpeak: @Lord_Kane Discord: @FRAYDO For your convenience, you may refer to the full Staff listing here. New Forum Rules Along with our moderation re-structure, we have re-written our forum rules! Whilst our previous set of rules has worked for many years now, we figured it was time to freshen them up and re-write them in a way that represents our community identity and our ideals; rather than piggybacking off of the ideas of others. You can view the new rules here! A link has also been embedded in the menu at the top of the page. Please take time to read! If anyone has any issues with or feedback for these new rules, please feel free to send a PM to @OWA. Mafia Hub / Forum GMs With the Mafia fever going strong on our forums, we henceforth are changing our name to Mafia Hub. /jk You'll notice a new usergroup floating around on our forums. Hosts of mafia games will be granted the title of Forum GM so they may effectively moderate their game threads as needed. Note that Forum GMs are not moderators nor staff. There are allowed the permissions only to edit posts within their own threads for the purpose of running their games, so please refer to the moderation team for any issues that you may come across. A new set of rules for Forum Games will be published shortly, so make sure to keep your eyes peeled for future updates! Feel free to stop by our Forum Games section any time! Well, hello people! Good to be back here. It's been a looooong time since I last played A Path Beyond...Back then, the studio was Bluehell Productions. There was a detail I wanted to talk about first hand, since it seemed kind of important. When me and my friends from CnCSaga arrived on the W3D Hud website to download the new version of APB, we all struggled to find the download button, until... We realized that it was right in our faces, but in a spot we typically learned to ignore over time. Mostly because, this is where publicity usually appear, on all other website. So yeah... I'd recommend moving this button somewhere else. It may seem trivial, but on website, ergonomics is very important and most users will simply get the heck out if they don't find the download link where they expect to. Thank you for reading and looking forward to see you guys in-game!

Hey guys, I'm looking for ideas on how an APB (or reborn if there's a big build that comes out) tournament could be done. How many people would be on a team? How many matches each? What would be the best way to determine team composition (RNG, self-choose, pairs of better and poorer players)? I'm thinking of putting up a hundred bucks or so for the first prize (not a lot but ya know). I hope it will get the community a bit energized and maybe draw a few people in, Thoughts?

Throwback Thursday! Today we look back at the Brothers In Arms mission, featuring none other than the infamous Molotov brothers! Borrowing a page from our friends at CNCNZ, today we are doing Throwback Thursday! Today we look back at the Brothers In Arms mission, featuring none other than the infamous Molotov brothers! Suspicious of their loyalty to the Soviet Union, you were tasked with spying on the brothers. Discovering them to be traitors, the mission then was to deal with them as all traitors are dealt with. Handling the Molotov brothers would prove troublesome, as the brothers themselves were armed with powerful weapons. To make matters worse, the Molotov brothers would receive aid from the Allied forces. Nonetheless, the Soviet commander and his forces would persecute the brothers for their traitorous actions and eliminate all traces of their base. Do not make enemies of the USSR, comrades. That's it for this Throwback Thursday! Friendly reminder that this October 31st marks the 20th anniversary of Red Alert!

(e.g. notifications for PMs/reports/subscriptions) it'd really help speed things up and help me keep tabs when I'm AFK

Hello everyone! Zost here, I was a player back in when there was a bluehell hub and then I stopped for a few years and now am returning. I tried to start up the launcher after downloading and It won't work, i tried as admin and still no dice. Using version 0.7.1.0 of the W3D Hub client, I attempted to install Red Alert: A Path Beyond. The installer always fails when trying to install the contents of msvc2015.zip, even after I manually remove the ZIP file to force re-downloading (the monitor icon doesn't bring up anything). I think I may know why the installer always fails at this point: I already have the latest version of MSVC 2015 installed due to doing some hobby-programming with Visual Studio 2015 Community. Below are my system specs: OS: Windows 10 Pro 64-bit v. 1511 CPU: Intel Core i7 4770 @ 3.40GHz GPU: GeForce GTX 970 w/4GB memory Memory: 24.00 GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 793.1MHz

I know this has been discussed before but now that my exams are over and i have time i would like to suggest organising a 2 day streaming session where we put up a timetable and invite streamers we know and the more famous ones to join aside from inviting friends and other people to play. I suggest having a time table (hourly) so that each streamer could fill in when they are going to stream and what maps they would like during that time. I suggest the time limits for the map for the main server for those 2 days be 15 minutes per round/map (10 minutes is fine too, if its too long things can get boring). I would like to know what games are W3D comfortable for display for the event? Is it only RA APB? TSR? It would be good if the developers could also come on and have a talk, show what they're working on and a Q&A session with the developers on stream. Since im really bad at PR i dont think i can do this alone. I also dont know when it is best for this as well, whether a 2 day weekend? Weekdays? In a months time? A whole year where we do this everyday? One way to get a more famous streamer to try this game is if lots of us contact them as it would show demand, spam them with requests. It would be better to get a few of them to participate in the event.

New month, new avatar theme! Spaceships! New month, new avatar theme! Firstly, may the Fourth be with you friends. As you may guess - from my current avatar and reference to today - I am a huge Star Wars fan. Of course, this is just part of this month's theme. This month's theme is spaceships! Spaceships from Star Wars, Star Trek, comics, movies, real-life and all other science-fiction!
