Excited to see the new version of Forest of Illusion. Used to play 6 person private games with friends on that map 5 years ago and loved trying to pass myself off as a ghost. lol

Same with accuracy penalties. I'll have to see if that makes me like the AKM more than the M16.

Today is the day, comrades. The latest version of Red Alert: A Path Beyond has been released!

Much time has been put into improving the game, and the APB development team is glad to finally make it available. Before you rush off to downloading, have a quick rundown of what has changed from the previous Gamma version.

Changelist

  • Naval combat has been reintroduced
  • Snipers reintroduced
  • Tech Level determined at the start of the round
  • Tech Level unit structure reworked
  • Sprinting has been added, which is done by holding [shift]
  • Regeneration has been added; Infantry will recover to 75% of their health, armour remains depleted.
  • Aiming penalties factor in; Standing, running, crouching and jumping will affect your accuracy.
  • Team info/base info popups bound to B and M
  • Updated models for several infantry and vehicles
  • Updated textures for infantry, vehicles, and buildings
  • Jukebox feature added
  • Substantial performance improvements
  • Maps have been vastly revamped and improved; in fact, have some previews!

Snipers reintroduced - no FPS game is good without snipers

Tech Level unit structure reworked - ok?

Sprinting has been added, which is done by holding [shift] - what about walking? it's something why I like this game

Regeneration has been added; Infantry will recover to 75% of their health, armour remains depleted. - hopefully medics are still useful

Aiming penalties factor in; Standing, running, crouching and jumping will affect your accuracy. - I like how you give the finger to these side jumping strafers

Team info/base info popups bound to B and M - Is this the same as the J thingy?

Updated models for several infantry and vehicles - more alternate skins please?

Updated textures for infantry, vehicles, and buildings - nice

Jukebox feature added - Unexpected, but love the idea.

Instead of unlocking more units over time, which severely limited players' options and made the game a lot more boring in the early stages of a match.

You can still walk by holding the jump button but it doesn't really do anything except look cool.

 

 

Team info/base info popups bound to B and M - Is this the same as the J thingy?

They're much more comprehensive than the old screens; B shows if someone is a passenger in a vehicle (the [+] icon) rather than a driver and it also tells you who's a spy if you're Allied, and M shows ALL structures instead of just a couple. They also don't get in the way as much; they're transparent overlays that don't prevent you from moving or seeing your surroundings while you're looking at them.

 

Updated models for several infantry and vehicles - more alternate skins please?

There's a limit of 4 skin variations per unit and most of them are already pushing that amount.

Here's the first glimpse of the game for peps who haven't tried it yet (just quick preview I've thrown from few games, no trailer quality).

 

 

 

The vid also shows how I feel about the new game. ("Yay Subs & naval returned, yay finally cooler maps!") :)

I see that this has a new release at last.... the last time I was here, this game was broken, and before that.... those were the days of the_dreadnought, blender, pushwall, and other legends. Lets ee if its time to come back....

 

BTW, is there a change log I could see anywhere. That would be great.
