  2. on a more serious note (if you count his sneaking skill as super) here's one for me and you, OWA, to reminisce on old times together There's only room for one Boss and one Snake. CL4P-TP deserves a superhero mention.

  3. Hey All, So this is the working title of my new project using W3D. This is the first time i've ever ventured into game development so i thought if i had a solid background story, i'd always have a base of insipration i could draw from. It's a bit long (might've got carried away). Back story (i made most of this up on the spot): The year is 2021 and The world has reached crisis point. Over population has hit unsustainable levels, there isn't enough food, medicine or housing to go around. Pollution is out of countrol and a dark smog now surrounds most of the world. In the cities; skyscrapers dominate the horizon. A sea of cold grey concrete. A shrine to capitalism. Most of the countryside has been left untouched by the corporate machine, but many people now live there to try and escape massive over population of the drab metropolises. Out of a need for strong leadership most of the western countries in Europe have joined under one single government. (The United Nations Of Europa). At first the new government seemed to be tackling the problems the region faced but it didn't take long for the cracks to start showing.Under the surface things were much worse than they appeared. The Segregation started slowly at first. A new ID system called Class-ID was implemented. Everyone's biometric data was recorded and you were issued with a number. This number signified your status in society based on your respective wealth and assets. It was promoted as a way to ensure the neediest of people received aid first, but after a while, it's true nature became apparent. Certain areas in the city were being cordoned off. Only people with ID number 4/5 could enter these "havens". Inside, the rich could live in luxury while the poor and middle class were left to starve slowly. Once the Class-ID system was fully integrated it didn't take long for the outer-rim areas of the cities and countryside to become ghettoized. There was crime, lack of jobs and gang warfare. Out of this chaos a group was formed: The United Liberation Front. The ULF are a well organised and well funded militia with one aim in mind: Revolution. Splinter cells have emerged throughout the Europa continent. Their charismatic leader; Chase Anderson used to be complicit in the system he now wants to overthrow. Formely the owner of one of the largest coprorations in the world he was a issed a level 5 status and was permitted to live in the havens. For a while, he did this. He got on with his life in luxury. Trying, with every inch of his being to ignore the fate of the people in the outer-rim. One day during a business trip, he was flying over the former Czechrepublic in his private helicopter. With his head rested on the transparent alluminium window he just watched the decaying city below him. He could make out small fires and communes where people were living on the streets. At this moment, he realised that the capitalist machine that has dominated the economy and government for so long, the system that he had flourished in was idealogically abnoxious. He'd always known this deep down, but today it was brought to the surface. No longer would he be a part of a corrupt system that draws money and resources up from the poor to the elite. It was time for someone to stand up agains the tyranny, it was time for action! The next day he drew up plans for the ULF and embezzeled money from his corporation to fund it. He left the havens and joined the starving people in the slums. A few years pass and the ULF now has a huge amount of support. With weapons donated and bought from the former USA they are now a real force to be reckoned with. Under emergency riot legislation, the UNOE (united nations of Europa) commissioned the Eruopa Defence Agency(EDA). They quickly developed into a modern ground army, encompassing the whole region. They were tasked with keeping peace in the city & rural slums and protecting the interests of the rich. At the helm of the EDA is a mysterious and cast iron charicature of a man named Delta Kennedy. Not much is known about Delta but he is famed for being needlessly brutal and un relenting in his duties. Both factions are locked in savage warfare with no end in sight. TL;DR Tyrannous government VS Liberation army = W3D Game Concept Art - Provided by SquidEmpire (Thank's alot mate!!!) Eruopa Defence Agency: United Liberation Front:

  4. Not only do I provide object and unit concepts, I also like conjuring up gameplay mechanics! A concept I've been working on for a while involves intelligence and tracking. I confess that I have been working this idea in regards to Shnappz's Pax Europa but I think it could work in any of the w3d games, or really any team-based FPS. If you're reading this Shnappz, I think this suggestion would go well with your game, and to everyone else, if you think it would go well with yours then go ahead! I believe it would be suited to a slower paced game then TSR or AR however. There are three components to this system, the first would be an annotated gameplay map that each team has access to. A regular map showing all your teams units would be present in your radar-type building while each player receives a version only showing terrain, it would show the map and break it into sections; sector 1, 2, 3, building 1, bridge 5 etc. This map would replace the 'radar' mini map so that individual units cannot see each other on the map. The second element would be a dynamic voice report system. This would be the most difficult part I believe. Instead of the generic "enemy sighted" voice commands, a player would have the option to choose from tasks like "report current location", "confirm", "request report of current location", "report enemy sighted", "request backup", "report unit down" etc. They could do this in a similar method to as is now used, holding alt and then pressing a number key. Once chosen a message will be played to the team mates over their radios. Here's an example; the player chooses to report an enemy sighted at their location. The following message is played to the team; "This is Unit 005, report hostile sighted in sector A-2". The message is created by the game from a series of samples; Radio intro sample "This is Unit" "0" "0" "5" "report hostile sighted in" "sector" "A" "2" Radio outro sound To mask the 'rough edges' that would result, static and radio effects can be employed. Finally the third and most interesting part; I suggest setting it up so that teams have the ability to intercept each others messages. Each team could have a 'spy' type unit or vehicle, that can receive enemy transmissions from their radios. This would create interesting scenarios with ambushes and traps as well as the possibility to provide misinformation etc. Problems: There are quite a few problems, I'll admit it. Maybe they can be worked around or out, or maybe not. Here are the ones I see: Players use skype or teamspeak, meaning there would be no point in using a slower, in-game method of team communication. (unless perhaps there's some reward to using the in game methods?) People spamming voice messages No method to 'reply' to a message (at least not without some sort of UI which would slow things down), causing confusion Makes for a slow game (not really a problem if that's what you're going for) Without getting very complex the information you would be sending can't really go beyond simple unit movements I agree it seems like a lot of work for questionable gain, but with some discussion maybe we can come up with something better

  13. Valve was nearly bought out by EA for $1 billion Newell said that Valve would sooner “disintegrate” than sell out to a major publisher. So with the bitter rivals EA and Valve you can safely say that the C&C franchise will not be going out on Steam any time soon. But if Valve bought EA out (which it could happen) then you would get the C&C franchise on Steam. If you stick to W3D instead of UDK then yes you are limiting yourself to a type of audience. I'd just stick with the W3D and make the most of it. Yes it would be amazing for it to be on Steam....that's if WestWood was around, then it would be attracting a larger audience. If you want to blame something blame EA for stopping the C&C franchise from being more popular. "In 2011, Electronic Arts, or EA, released its competitor to Steam, by the moniker Origin. From the beginning, gamers didn't like it. Not only were they used to using Steam, they were skeptical of anything with EA’s name on it. Though EA’s games are popular, their business practices are not. EA is always in the running for the worst company in America by the Consumerist and even “won” in 2012, the first full year of Origin’s release. They have a reputation for mistreating their customers with invasive anti-piracy policies and greedy pricing schemes that nickel and dime people into paying for content they should have received in the first place. EA, aware that most customers would prefer to deal with Valve, decided to cease selling their new games on Steam. If people wanted to play their PC games, they’d need to play it on Origin, or not at all." Keep up with the good work and I will support you guys all the way!
