  1. That new bridge definitely looks better, but would you be willing to add more boards and have them much closer together? That was always the biggest thing that bothered me about the current/old bridge, just how absurdly spaced out the boards are and how no bridge in existence is built like that. This new bridge is the perfect opportunity to fix the old bridge's problems like that.
  2. The problem with that is that the destructible bridge is massive, so it would need a majorly downsized variant in order to replace the Bonsai bridges. This variant would also require modifications to its design to allow for sensible implementation of wood components.
  3. Funny, those same bridges were on my to-do list too I was hoping to make a nice wood-and-stone bridge of identical size and shape to possibly replace the one currently in use, but I haven't had time yet.
  4. The airfield is looking good so far. Although personally I think the lines are too many and too bold, giving it an overall too modern look. AFAIK WWII airfields tended to have a much simpler appearance, but I could be wrong. It's hard to find good photos of runways from back then, and even more so for Soviet ones.
  5. Fair enough, and yeah you're right in that gameplay has to take priority over absolute realism. Just to clarify though, I really like the bridge and think it's a good addition. I was just suggesting connecting the two icebergs, either underwater or just above the surface, and still having the bridge over the gap (clearly they needed to get to the other side so a bridge makes sense). It wouldn't affect the gameplay but would make it much more realistic in that sense.
  6. The map is looking awesome, but I always thought that Mobile SAM's design was kinda far-fetched. IMO it would look far more feasible as a standard V2 chassis with 1 SAM turret. Plus that would enable it to work properly in-game too. I'd also recommend that, if there's gonna be a bridge between two icebergs, then they should be joined into one big iceberg with a canyon where the bridge is (or at least, joined underwater). Two separate icebergs would rip any bridge apart as they drift around. Overall, the map is coming along really nicely! :D
  7. Ladders were a good addition to the buildings, they improve the versatility of gameplay and give players (both friendly and enemy) additional routes and options for attacking and defending. IMO they never really caused any problems (at least, none that didn't already exist in some form anyway) and should not be removed. To do so would be a step backwards, and would not be an improvement. No need to remove them or make them team-only or add elevators or other complex workarounds, just leave it as-is. It's fine as it is. A team-only roof access from the inside, however, (i.e. Re-adding that door that the Ref used to have, and adding a ladder-access to the Factory roof with a team-locked hatch) would be a good idea to explore, but leave the exterior ladders as they are.
  8. River Raid might be the simplest one to start with, since it's a relatively small map with fairly direct routes to the bases. After that I might do Canyon River or Pipeline.
  9. Aesthetically speaking, I'm all for replacing the Repair Tool model with something more vintage-looking, most likely an old-fashioned analogue multi-meter rather than the digital flip-phone style device we currently have. Although to be fair even I'm pretty nostalgic for the dial-up sounds. As for how repair tools (and most things really) even work, the way I've always seen it is that it's simply a representation, not meant to be taken literally; In my interpretation, there's no "auto-repair system" or anything far-fetched like that, and the ConYard basically acts as a warehouse and shipping point which houses the necessary materials and construction equipment to build structures and maintain/repair them as-needed (this is represented by the ConYard auto-repairing buildings in-game). On a similar note, the War Factory is simply a warehouse and workshop where vehicle parts are shipped to and then assembled on-site, or used to refurbish existing vehicles, and this is how vehicles are "produced" at the Factory. In the case of the Repair Tool, it's simply a diagnostic tool to help Technicians quickly find damaged parts of a building so that they can initiate the necessary repair work as soon as possible. Same goes for the Golden Wrench, Mechanic's Wrench, and Service Depot. They're all just simplified representations of the complex repair/maintenance procedures that would actually be taking place.
  10. More range would definitely be nice, and perhaps slightly more direct damage and/or slash to help it live up to its old reputation as the 'Infantry Eraser' and give it slightly more punch against light vehicles. IMO, any ordinary infantry unit that takes a direct hit from a Yak's autocannon should suffer grievous damage if they're not killed outright.
  11. If the engine has these kinds of restrictions regarding deployable weapons then it might be best to leave arty/V2 as-is and not complicate things, except trying to somehow make them less susceptible to sliding when stationary (traction settings? I'm no expert in this so there are probably more factors than I realize).
  12. Love the new computer units! :D I like how the vacuum tube units blink in various patterns, looks really cool. Personally I'd like to see a couple more of the tape units, but that's just me. For the missile silo, perhaps the three double-sided plain units across from the screen unit could have tapes on one side? Anyway it looks really good, a million times better than the >10-poly props they've replaced. The missile silo window is a really nice touch as well. Makes the whole building feel more connected and just looks really cool in general.
  13. The shadows definitely look better than before. Looking good I like seeing the two computer components along the wall in that last mainframe screenshot, but I'd still recommend adding at least two or three tape units to go along with them, and doing the same with any other sets which might be in the room as well, to really give it that old-school mainframe look. Plus seeing lots of tape units all spinning away looks really cool IMO. Anyway good job so far!
  14. Not only that, but this particular scene is from the Soviet mission where you have to prevent a nuclear reactor from melting down, and the unit portrayed is being used as a monitoring station for monitoring the reactor's functions. This doesn't necessarily preclude it from being used for other computing functions, but it's also not shown in any other context so it could be a specialized piece of equipment specifically for that function; we have no way of knowing for sure. Plus, there's no conclusive proof of this being the entire computer; What we see in that room could very well be nothing more than a remote console for monitoring the reactor's functions, and for all we know the rest of the computer (possibly consisting of several dozen tape units and processing units!) could simply be in an adjacent room. In addition, the only really 'advanced' computer tech shown in this scene is the monitors/screens, which as Neko Soldier pointed out, could just be a result of Tiberian Dawn assets being re-used for convenience; There's nothing outright suggesting that the actual data processing/storage units of the time were much more advanced than they were in our timeline, and even if the military had developed some more advanced technology, the older computers would still remain in common usage for many years, particularly with civilian institutions (such as this tech center) who don't have access to the military hardware, which is most likely top-secret and won't be declassified for many years to come. And it looks awesome!
  15. Looking good so far. I'd still add a couple rows of tape units along the walls of the mainframe room though, and maybe a few to accompany the consoles as well. After all, computers back then typically needed a lot of these units in order to function at a useful capacity, and it makes sense for a research center to have a lot of them.
  16. I'm sure this has been asked before, but do you intend on eventually making every building/vehicle from all the classic C&C games, or perhaps even an entire mod? Or just certain ones which you're interested in? Your work looks really good and would look amazing in its own RTS.
  17. They seem to love plastering their logo on just about everything else. Although there would probably be a lot of variation between different units/regiments with regards to paint-jobs and markings. Still, markings are important for real-world militaries for identification and preventing friendly-fire or other undesirable incidents. Also, is the plane launching some kind of chemical missile in that screenshot? Or what is that near the bottom of the image?
  18. The Strela model (the Soviet equivalent of the Redeye back in their day) is a really nice addition indeed Regarding new weapons, the Rocket Soldier is listed as using an M72 in RA1, and something like the Javelin would be far too modern for the setting. If any weapons got changed it would be more appropriate if anything to use older predecessor weapons whenever possible rather than more modern successors. In the case of the Allies, it would also make sense to give preference to European weapons unless specifically identified as otherwise in RA. The weapon you're thinking of from early builds of APB is the Stinger launcher, a 1970's-era anti-air missile launcher. It's shown in a Tiberian Dawn cutscene (presumably used by Nod) shooting down a helicopter. Also, welcome back! EDIT: Looks like Pushwall beat me to the punch
  19. Looking pretty sweet. That Iron Curtain effect looks amazing. My only major suggestion for the computer room would be to add a couple rows of tape units along the walls. Computers back then needed a lot of them! I agree with you that a few more posters would be nice for APB. There's a ton of WWII ones that we could use.
  20. It would be cool, yes, but that setup would probably be better suited (hypothetically) to the actual Soviet Tech Centre on a mission specifically taking place towards the end of the war, whereas this one could be used on maps taking place somewhat earlier when the research hasn't matured yet.
  21. Personally the Mammoth is one of the very last things I'd test it on; Realistically the scientists would have to start out applying the Iron Curtain to small simple objects, and work out the various problems and technical issues which would inevitably arise with such an advanced technology, before proceeding to larger and more complex stuff. EDIT: The Tesla Tank/MRJ chassis seems like a fairly appropriate testbed.
  22. It will be interesting to see the Iron Curtain research lab Personally I hope the Iron Curtain is really early-prototype looking, with various cables and other components jerry-rigged together and kinda sprawled around the lab along with various old-fashioned science-looking stuff, but with the overall lab still laid out in a (somewhat) realistic way. Aesthetic inspiration could be taken from various WWII works of fiction as well as historical research of the time period. Regarding space concerns, it would probably be best to use the Soviet Ranger or some other small vehicle as the test subject, or even a piece of a base defence or something.
