With the Prime Minister authorising Operation Temperer to be deployed, there are about 5000 British Army soldiers patrolling the streets, much of them in Manchester and London, such as Westminster, Buckingham Palace, etc. I haven't seen any soldiers but in my city (Norwich) the armed police have been deployed, which is rare in of itself considering British police do NOT carry firearms by default, that is handled by a separate unit. Though that being said there's already controversy of soldiers being deployed because it's a throwback to The Troubles in Northern Ireland due to the army patrolling those streets and it... ended rather badly. But yeah, the sad part is, the security services knew about the bloke and did nothing about it, according to the Home Secretary.

Had a similar situation; bought a rocket soldier to chase away a sub, it retreated and as did I, I then crashed. ...and just typing this whilst standing on some boxes by the Soviet radar dome, crashed again. So I'm not really sure where to put this as I've been meaning to post this all day but I wasn't too sure where exactly, as the bug tracker is gone and the Report Bugs link is also broken so I guess I'll stick it here? Anyhow I recall this bug was actually fixed sometime ago in a changelog but it seems to have resurfaced as I discovered several days ago and I wanted to be sure if this was the case but anyway, standing in a certain spot between the small passage of the barracks allows you to use the Golden Wrench or Repair Tool at the full repair rate. It may not seem like a big deal but on certain maps this could be exploited by the Soviet team to repair without much retaliation. Could it be because of the enlarged (and new) MCT? That also reminds me, if you hug certain spots of the barracks, you can access the PTs from the outside, again, might not be a big deal but it's kind of a crappy thing. Same could be said for the warfactory terminals but it's near impossible to do that. None of these apply to the Allied Barracks to my knowledge.
-
Problem with those from what I remember, that they can be exploited to negate any kind of fall damage. Happened a lot on Glacier but then again I suppose times change, they were fun to use so unless that exploit can be fixed, I doubt they'll ever return.

I loved that mass Grenadier rush; and I loved how it failed too. Same with the Hind one, wasn't expecting it to work but it worked our rather beautifully.

Balance Boosting Allied strength on larger games
JigglyJie replied to des1206's topic in W3D Hub Discussion
1.) Unless the Spy was a limited unit, I'd say no, for obvious reasons. 2.) Again, no, especially on silo only maps. It's not that hard to steal on Metro and even the current cash stolen hinders the Soviets a lot, I don't like to think if that would make them completely broke and not able to do anything about any kind of assault. (you could mine but the Allies could also steal before you even get a minelayer out...) Rest I'm okay with. -
I don't know what you exactly did, but this fixed the issue I was having (it seems, so far!) so thanks for this!

That's a good point, I didn't think of that but I think we could work around that, one would be to possibly restore the volatile nature of the Grenadier (prone to exploding on death and potentially killing nearby medics if they get too close, Soviet one too, perhaps for balance). Another would be to weaken the strength of the Allied one, but even then that probably wouldn't be needed. It'd also take several people to pull off and would be very expensive and even then there's no guarantee of them being able to do much if the Soviet team decided to do a tank rush on their base. From what I've observed, the Soviets don't seem to have too much problems dealing with RangerRS combo as it is, so I think this could be bearable too, plus it would really fit with their theme of mobility and light hit-and-run tactics. As you say, it would really open up their ability to siege as well. Possibilities are endless if we experiment and think on it, someone brought this up the other day on CanyonRiver about how Grenadiers were too annoying to deal with on the Allied side, to save the time and effort of yet another rework of the map, I proposed why not a Allied Grenadier? Allies would be able to do the same and a RangerGrenadier combo would probably be too expensive and easy to deal with since the map has a lot of trees so chances are, it wouldn't work too great without smashing into a tree or rock. I don't know, but I feel the idea of a Allied infantry siege unit would really expand upon their gameplay, but wouldn't hinder the Soviets too much as they can deal with it possibly fine since they have a wide range of options as it is. Just my two cents on the matter.
-
Personally I think any change/removal isn't needed, I like the current role the Grenadier has as a infantry siege unit but that being said... why not allow the Allies to have him too? I mean, it's a pretty generic unit as it is (plus he's available on RockTrap so model/texture isn't an issue, would be a shame to keep it locked away to that one map) and I don't think it'd break the gameplay much at all, in fact, what the Soviets can do, the Allies can do too, with it. A bit like how the Soviets were given rangers on certain maps and the Allies, chinooks.

There seems to be a partial truth to this; as I have noticed a pattern going on. If you are unable to login, it takes around 5 minutes for server listings to show, whereas being logged in it's near instant.

A Path Beyond Which old APB maps should we bring back?
JigglyJie replied to ChopBam's topic in W3D Hub Discussion
Voted for Metro, CamosCrossing, Fjord and Shallow Grave. Don't have much reasoning but... Metro - I really liked the urban theme but I think it could become a tad bigger so that the silos stand a bit more a chance, the map became no fun when a quick rush obliterates your only source of income, partly in aid due to the distance between bases being very short. CamosCrossing - the map itself was very unique in the sense that you, the player, had to gather ore for your team. It was a disaster back in Beta, possibly earlier, due to the Allies having both Mechanics and Rocket Soldiers, whereas the Soviets didn't get neither, making the Allied team grossly OP. I would omit commandos from the map too for obvious reasons. ShallowGrave - not much to add other than perhaps a rework, much of it was bland big open spaces, could be resized. Fjord - how many times has this map been mentioned (and even worked on) for a remake? Either way, I just remember that V2 defending was very fun there. -
I always felt something similar akin to this: Allies work well in lesser numbers; whereas Soviets work well in greater numbers. But realistically, balance goes out the window the more players there are and I personally feel that's fine, it means you must work as a team instead of being a lone wolf all the time. It is true that stealth and flanking are less successful when up against such a numerous opposition, providing scouts are in place but that all adds to the fun, I feel.

Whilst I generally agree with an anti-stalemate feature (and did vote yes) I also echo about what has been said regarding last stands and comebacks, they may be rare but they do happen and when they do it really is a great sense of achievement. Sort of like a pyrrhic victory, if you will.
-
I use them a lot, I find them be an all-rounded unit and I think they're just 'okay'. Not too good but not too bad either.

Unfortunately I couldn't make the last game night due to surprise ROTR testing commitments, but I will definitely try to make this one! (If I don't, send a few demotrucks my way )

A Path Beyond Get rid of "instant repair" Golden Wrench?
JigglyJie replied to Pushwall's topic in W3D Hub Discussion
That's interesting to know however the wrench is a panic tool often utilised (in with bunnyhopping disarmers) to remove the flare ASAP. Most of the time a flare is competently defended and the removal of that panic tool means it's likely defenders won't be able to disarm. Perhaps that would warrant an increased time for the a-bomb to hit? -
A Path Beyond Get rid of "instant repair" Golden Wrench?
JigglyJie replied to Pushwall's topic in W3D Hub Discussion
I like the golden wrench but I don't think it should be entirely gone or nerfed anymore; however I do see the problem with it. (what about signal flares, btw?) What I do think is, in the event of a possible removal of the wrench is that Engineers should be able to repair a bit faster than a Technician. These guys cost quite a bit of money and I expect to be able to repair faster with the default method, staring at that MCT and repairing whilst under a heavy siege drives me insane. Additionally, building durability would need to be increased a tad so artillery/V2/demo/MAD spam won't wreck the building(s) in a few hits due to the lack of the wrench. However, the possibility of capturing neutral/enemy tech buildings is very appealing and something I requested too... so we're in a bit of a predicament. -
Hopefully there will actually be people joining this time around I'll likely make both.

Nope, all I have open is Skype and Steam but I haven't added it to it. Launching with them closed produces the same result. I did think it could be my Kaspersky but then I realised it can't be because if you're getting the same problem then it's unlikely to be related, and even then Kaspersky never conflicted with it before. Mind you, this only started happening right around when the forum got an upgrade, so I guess it's related...? And yeah, I too tend to get the exact same problem as @OrangeP47 has as well, although that's more uncommon. I'm tempted to do a full reinstall at this rate but I'd rather not if it's just a simple case at work instead.
-
Exactly what Jeod was saying, leaving the launcher open for several minutes does cause them to show up but I have to ask... why? Can it not be restored to how it was? After a few seconds it appeared? Ideally it should, otherwise this'll turn off new players from trying again, thinking it doesn't work. Or is there some technical issue with this?
-
There isn't any join buttons at all, whenever I click the Server Browser tab, none show up at all. The only way I can fix this, temporarily, as I said above, is to reinstall the launcher but once I close it, it'll happen again once I open it up again. I wonder if anyone else has a similar problem or not, because if I am, then I guess I might have to do a full removal and install of it. edit: Okay now I think I'm going crazy, as I was typing this, I left the launcher open for about 5 minutes and now SUDDENLY, they appear. Yeah, I cannot get the servers to display anything at all unless I re-download the client and let it update itself but the problem with that is, it'll revert back to not showing any servers once I close the program, I'm not sure if anyone else has that problem too or whether it's been noted. edit: Okay that's weird, the above post just magically appeared when I posted this message...

I wanted to reply earlier but I couldn't. Is there meant to be a poll too as I don't see one or are you just collecting opinions? Either way, if it's anything, I would go with AR. Even if it was a small release, that would be nice. I'm genuinely looking forward to AR the most as it seems to have the most interesting mechanics and gameplay features.

Is there any update on this? I've been checking every now and then and I am still unable to log into the launcher (can't see any servers either unless I login ... which I can't).
