  1. This is definitely an interesting concept (the idea of using games to better yourself) and one that I wholeheartedly agree with. If you want some links on some game theory documentation so that you have more material to work with and discuss, I'd be more than happy to provide you with it.
  2. The Cruiser in the cut-scenes of Red Alert is the very same Iowa-Class Battleship, so the RA-lism is spot on in this case. I tried testing out a 1:1 scale Cruiser last month. Let's just say that it would have required a lot of map changes to accommodate it.
  3. The new changes to the camera logic make the APC even better than before imho. I find it really enjoyable to play with.
  4. Hi there! If you would like to see the server list, you'll have to install the W3D Hub Launcher here and select the Server Tab: Unfortunately we currently don't have a full public list available on the internet right now. Hope that answers your question!
  5. Whilst three teams are somewhat possible, making the third team perform the same as the other two teams would require some work. It's not that simple unfortunately.
  6. I'll be submitting this feedback to EA next week, so make sure you've got it all posted here! Alternatively, feel free to PM me with your feedback and I'll send it privately!
  7. I'd disagree on their uniqueness. Granted that the art is different, but under the hood they are mechanically the same as any other melee unit in any other W3D game, except that they are half the height and do damage over time, rather than chunks of damage like the Chameleon Spy in Reborn for example.
  8. It really depends what your definition of fun is in that case. I think there is room for a lot of improvement. The fact that they are in AR and "work" isn't enough currently. There's more than just a small balance issue in the way of a good implementation that compliments the gameplay elements in a way that is much better than our first pass prototype.
  9. Dogs need a lot of work before they can be fun. The main problem is a lack of telegraphing on the attack. Dog players currently run up to players with the mouse held down in order to make kills, which looks and feels really silly. It also feels really un-fun to play against. We're currently working on attack animations to telegraph when a dog is attacking which should hopefully fix it up a little bit, then we'll see where to go next.
  10. Because AoE doesn't have Mammoth Tanks.
  11. Sounds like someone is a fan of the Red Alert Desktop Themes pack.
  12. Just a quick FYI, whilst a lot of the developers that worked at Petroglyph were developers that previously worked at Westwood, this is not as true now as it was back in 2003 when Petroglyph was formed. People move on to new jobs and now there aren't as many ex-Westwood developers left at Petroglyph as some people would leave you to believe. Stay informed guys.
  13. In wider community news this weekend, long time C&C developer Jim Vessella (you may remember him from such titles as C&C3 and Red Alert 3) announced EA's interest in remastering some of the older C&C titles with an aim to release in ti,e with the 25th anniversary of the franchise in 2020. Here's his statement in full. Jim has also been commenting on threads around the community and has already answered a few questions. Here's what we know: The remastered games will not contain any form of microtransactions or monetisation. The remasters will not be using OpenRA's engine and EA doesn't have any problems with OpenRA existing. Modern system compatibility will be a priority moving forward and Jim praised the modders who keep the older games compatible with newer OS's. With all this in mind, we want to hear what you guys would like in a new C&C game! W3D Hub is now a big part of the C&C community, so we should make our voices heard! With that in mind, here are a few questions to think about: How much "updating" is acceptable? Balance changes, usability improvements, UI improvements...? Should the balance be changed or stay the same? Or should there be a "classic" mode and a "remastered" mode? Should UI elements from the new C&C games like sidebar tabs, multiple unit queuing etc. be part of a remaster? Should waypoints, attack move and other modern RTS elements be incorporated in a remaster? is there anything "sacred" you would advise NOT to change in Remaster? Obviously feel free to add your own notes to this thread and I will make sure than Jim sees it. This is your chance to have your say in the future of the franchise! 14. Random sidenote. I had no idea that mixchecker.exe was a thing. I just created a legit Renegade client by installing Scripts 4.6 onto the Renegade multiplayer demo and running mixchecker; then I went and had a couple of games in the RenCorner server. Crazy.
  15. CnCNet pulls it's listing from GSA, so the folks who currently run the GSA server listings that certain services use (RenList, CnCNet etc.) have removed it. We didn't ask them to, so it's out of our hands really.
  16. We'll work to get this sorted out in that case. I was under the impression that IA had been truly standalone'd, but if loose files in the data folder are the only thing making this incompatible with the rest of the Renegade serverbase then we'll work to fix it as soon as we can. Cheers @roszek Now that the issue has been explained by Roszek, I can see your standpoint a bit better. More mutual intermingling is definitely a good idea to bring an end to these unneeded standoffs. Ultimately we want what's best for everyone, which is why we're working on Renegade support for our launcher. Maybe it would be a good idea to get a load of us on TeamSpeak one night and play some cross-community games sometime? Any kind of relationship between W3D Hub and the wider Renegade community isn't going to work without a certain degree of trust for sure. We hold a lot of cards these days, but we really don't want to drive everyone else out of business. For now, we'll continue work on the Renegade-support for the launcher and take a look at what we can do with IA.
  17. They have shown for years, but that's not what I'm asking. Nobody can use RenList to join APB because they get a mismatch. But if they hypothetically could join and the majority of players were playing APB (in the place of IA) instead of on RenCorner and MPF, would this situation be near enough the same in your eyes?
  18. Just a question. Out of curiosity, if players could hypothetically join APB using RenList, would we be having the same conversation as we are having right now? If the issue is truly and only one of competition between servers, then the Renegade support that's coming for the launcher should fix this whole problem right? I can say for definite that once it comes in we plan to support all servers (and not blacklist servers that we don't like) in the interest of fairness. It would be interesting to see how many players have switched to the W3D Launcher to play IA and how many are using RenList to judge whether the numbers point to a correlation with your statements. It's interesting, since it's really hard to judge without the hard numbers. Also, I'd like to point out that the latest version of IA isn't Renegade. It's a total conversion mod that adds a large amount of new unit types in order to make the gameplay vastly different.
  19. If you're referring to the fact that we refused his request to run an APB server, it was because MPF was known at the time to heavily mod the game experience from what we deemed appropriate, turning it into something that didn't play or sound like the game that we made at all. Also, there weren't enough players to populate more than one server at the time, so a second one wasn't really required. Otherwise, I don't know what you're referring to.
  20. Hey shaitan. The IA team has previously told me that the version of IA on our launcher is standalone, so it's not a straight-up build of Renegade. That being said, the team has also made it so that players can connect using a stock Renegade client with RenList if they choose to do so. We have only given it publicity through our own site and social media channels so far. As for jacking the playerbases, well IA is heavily modified compared to stock Renegade, so the gameplay experience is somewhat different. We have been working on full Renegade support for the launcher, but unfortunately that isn't quite ready yet. Our intention is to list all Renegade servers (including RenCorner and MPF) on it once support has been completed in order to provide the definitive way to play Renegade online.
  21. After 3 and a half years of silence the CNCNZ Community Roundtable is back, featuring W3D Hub's very own @OWA amongst some other big names in the Command and Conquer community! https://cncnz.com/features/roundtable-discussion/october-2018-37/ Head over to CNCNZ for our opinions on C&C Rivals and the current state of the community, as well as some info about what we're playing and looking forward to in the RTS genre! 22. Let me doublecheck the settings, because 0.94296847 sounds like a crazy number. Edit: You should have a 2MB allowance for your profile pic. Gifs are naturally rather large, so you might want to use a piece of software like ScreenToGif in order to compress them.
  23. Missing a few options there; like Dawn of War, Halo Wars, Supreme Commander etc. But C&C is there so why would you vote for anything else.
  24. OWA's question: When I used to work with Andre Arsenault, he once told me a story about when you played him one of his voice lines from Tiberian Sun: Firestorm as he entered a room once, (something about a "cool beverage"?). My question is, what's your favourite piece of obscure dialogue from any C&C game?
