  1. While there is, ineed, no real clear answer to this question, I believe that the technology shown in the cutscenes and the game itself indicates that the world in RA was quite more advanced compared to our own at the time. Things that can be seen are: the usage of sattelites, ICM missiles, advanced ballistic targeting equipment (shown in many cruiser cutscenes), heat seeking missiles (migs, sams, rocket soldiers), colour television, graphical animations used in control rooms, and much more. This is, of If you meant to say that the Great World War II is Red Alert, then ehm.. Yeah. Let me put it this way, I myself prefer the RA > TD connection in terms of overal timeline. However, the official lore dictates that Red Alert and TD aren't connected. It was intended at first, then retconned, re-introduced again with lore for the canceled Renegade 2 and Tiberian Incursion and then, yet again, retconned from existence. This way, I think that we could say that TD tech followed our own timeline much, much, closer than the RA one did. The yak is actually a pretty interesting unit. Considering that the yak seems to appear at even the most unimportant of events and that every, and I mean every, commander seems to have access to the thing, I think that we may just as well take it that the unit is considered expendable and as common as a normal army truck. They litterally appear in the first mission and will be with you for the rest of the war. It's also fun to note that, due to them being available earlier than hinds, hinds may actually be considered more valuable than the old piston plane. Migs, especially with the badgers and high-speed spy planes, may actually be as advanced as they are made out to be in the cutscene. In the end, the yak might just be that plane that has been manufactured in the tens of thousands and, even on the modern battlefield, may still be able to fullfill a ground strafing role well enough for the Russians to keep them in service to give their troops some additional support. I don't think that the RA war and its development of tech can really be compared to that of World War 2. World War 2 was basically a race in firepower and interception, with that came the additional development of protection, and of course, the development of total war logistics. It was a war like World War I where the old ideas and strategies made way for new, modern, warfare. Red Alert's Great World War II already has most of its advanced tech right from the start, heat seeking missiles, jet planes, advanced ballistic targeting devices, potentially sattelites, etc. The tech instead develops in a more traditional manner, tougher tanks are introduced to counter earlier ones, yet not as in WW2 where old roles were abbolished, new, more effective ones, arrose and specific design features were taken and build uppon. Other than the more wacky tech, the development of arms and support is much, much, slower in RA than it was in WW2. There were some pretty interesting things like the wacky tech, but they didn't have as much of a battlefield impact as the special tech of WWII did. (Perhaps with the exception of chronotech and, in terms of development, the atomic bomb.) While TD and RA are indeed 40+ year apart, and the conventional RA tech is without a doubt not as advanced as that that is seen in TD, the actual technological gap might actually be a lot smaller than what is seen on first sight. Especially with the official lore keeping RA and TD seperate.
  2. Try Mid-Cold war tech vs Gulfwar tech and you'll be a lot closer. Perhaps even late-cold war tech if the RA cutscenes are any indication.
  3. My tech tree is almost done. I'll probably post it in a couple of days.
  4. Bleh, so China won eh? Oh well, time for besttank.
  5. Pfft, it weren't the ships that took out your subpen. That was me lonewolfing your subpen with a Tanya-Naval transport rush. I even made it back to base. In fact, it was me alone who took out the only two soviet structures destroyed that match. (And I did it all alone! D: )
  6. Some things are better left unanswered. None of us know how that guy showed up. Some say that there are certain triggers on the map that will cause him to haunt the forest area. The thing is, we never put such a thing on the map!
  7. Very well, let's see if I can pull off something interesting. (Back story first.) The Republic of Caladoria Caladoria is a Republic in which an elected president is tasked with the democratic checks. The world on which the country resides, is enduring turbulant times. Many great powers and empires have been at war during the World war around twenty years ago. However, despite the devastating effect of the war, conflicts still occur and battleships still roam the oceans in order to portray their owner's strenght. Caladoria, however, sits in a more peaceful part of the world. Being settled by explorers from the old empires 200 years ago, it won its independence 85 years ago when it assisted its ruler in a bloody war. Even though Caladoria had the status of ''colony'' only 85 years ago, it has already followed the great power's example and has started colonising several islands and a former Yuang province after winning them in the World war. (Although the nation was neutral on the outbreak of the war, it was dragged in after a Rodonelle fleet accidently sunk Caladoria's capital ship and two escorts.) Caladoria's industry has been booming over the past 85 years and it recently introduced a new innovation to the world: the assembly line. The economic prospects are look good and many believe that the republic's powerful economy and industry, combined with its ability to sustain herself and ultilise her colonies will soon grand Caladoria her great power title. The Caladorian Presidential Army. The Caladorian Presidential Army focuses on mobility, firepower, and versatility to combat its foes. Its armed forces can quickly move around the area with their quick tanks and half-tracks while their dedicated specialists are able to put out some serious firepower. Due to the (assumed) lower technological level of the Caladorians compared to their (to be introduced) adversaries, this feeling of overwhelming firepower may not always be present. This doesn't mean that the president's army is weak, for they have a few tricks up their sleves. The almost complete lack of rockets and missiles will prevent their projectiles from being deflected or intercepted while tactical use of smoke can change entire engagements in just a fraction of a second. Strenghts: High mobility, Vesatility, Concentrated firepower, Combined arms, Low power requirements Weaknesses: Protection, Manned base defenses, No projectile interceptors, No heavy ''breakthrough'' tanks/mechs/whatever, No stealth Housecolour: Dark Green [x]
  8. I'd like to work on my stuff, but I can't guarantee that I'll make it in time.
  9. That skin will no longer work with the new Medium tank though.
  10. May I remind you guys that we have a specific Q&A thread for questions like these? https://secure.w3dhub.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=415004 This is not the place to ask your questions, especially not when the gap between the ''old'' and ''new'' posts is four months.
  11. Just for your birthday, I didn't anger you on the front page.
  12. The question is though, are you an easymode derper? Or are you an honourable user of the 76mm gun?
  13. Ah yes, US tanks, the jacks of all trades, masters of none. They're comfortable if harder to use than the Russian tanks. I myself started playing after receiving a closed beta key over at the BHP forums in june/july 2010. Yeah, it has been that long. If you want to know more about my World of Tanks stuff, check out my account page. http://worldoftanks.eu/community/accounts/500033332-Kukov/?utm_source=global-nav&utm_medium=link&utm_campaign=wot-portal
  14. And so we're open for tester hiring again! Check out the article for more details! Hello citizens of W3D Hub! It's that time of the year again, time to hire new testers. Except this time, you will not have to worry about a deadline. We're open for applications for pretty much until the end. How do you apply? Simply follow this link!
  15. Wish granted. But you won't be able to upgrade the gun, so it keeps using the 75mm M3 until the end of times. Oh, and your matchmaking will be bad enough to always put you in T8 matches. I wish my wish would be corrupted.
  16. A mattress delivery truck accidently loses one of its mattresses. You fall on the mattress and survive. I lost a mattress on my way to a client. My boss is going to kill me over this. Halp.
  17. I'll most likely be in dreamland. So I'll probably miss out.
  18. That looks like a broken blue tib palette on a snow map.
  19. Mr. Ekman is on a mission to recover to recover a detonator from a crashed GDI Dropship that was supposed to be demolished at Hammerfest. The detonator was originally used in a cold-war era nuclear device that had just recently been uncovered in Russia. GDI transported it by train to Moscow from where it was supposed to be airlifted to Hammerfest. On the way, an ion storm struck and forced the dropship to make a landing, however, the landing was unsuccessful and therefore, the craft crashed.
  20. Granted, but it still sucked anyway. I wish I didn't suffer from the cold.
  21. Wish granted, you now have an Ant Man suit. However, the suit's mechanism is faulty and only shrinks the suit and not the person inside, destroying the suit when you first use it. I wish this thread included JOHN CENA.
  22. Granted, but when we go back to save you from your future death, we accidentaly erase Hitler from history, wich causes the RA universe to turn reality and the removal of the RA games from existance. I wish every day people wouldn't be offended as easily as they are now.
  23. That's because you are. Nah, but in all seriousness, it's great how the franchise has managed to reach 20 years even though the past few years have been extremely quite and the future looks bleaker than it did during the 2004 - 2006 years on the official front of things. Currently, it's the community (what's left of it) and their mods and other projects that keep Cnc alive and fun. EA has, other than Tiberian Alliances, done nothing with Command and Conquer after canceling Cnc 2013/Gen2. (Although I didn't like the look of the gameplay from the few video's I have seen.) So what does the future hold? Will EA resurrect Cnc RTS and/or FPS? Or will they keep Tib Alliances running and pretty much archive the original franchise? I don't know, but I do know that we're pretty much all here because of the old games we hold so dear.
  24. Granted. It stays good for a couple episodes, and then the rest of the series is utter crap. I wish M. Night Shyamalan would stop making movies. Granted, he'll make films instead. I wish I could change somebody's Big Red Text.
