I was originally going to post this as a response to a post in a different thread, but I feel like this deserves to be discussed in a broader sense, and to avoid derailing another topic. I have to ask: why are people so concerned with what engine a game uses? To me, the only people who need to worry about engines are the developers, as they need to work with it in order to create their game. But why is it an issue for the average consumer (or player, for free games such as the ones at W3D Hub)? It's pretty baffling, honestly. To use a AAA example: One of the many criticisms that Call of Duty has received over the years is the fact that they essentially all use the same engine. Personally, I don't see why it matters, as the IW engine clearly does everything Infinity Ward/Sledgehammer/Treyarch want it to do, not to mention the fact that it's been tweaked and updated over the years. The same could be said for W3D; Sure, it's an old engine, but it's come a long way since Renegade came out in 2002. Just look at what we have so far; sprinting, digging underground, deployable artillery, walkers, jetpacks, chronoshifting, sandworms, etc... Stuff that nobody would've thought remotely possible 13 years ago. And yet, there is still a push for a switch to UDK or UE4 because they're "better engines." While I'm not blind to the advantages of moving to UE4, I do wonder why people claim that the switch would solve all of our issues and bring in tons of players. What are your thoughts on this? Is there something I'm missing here?

Mine is the Wheelman from Silent Hill: Downpour. Mostly for sheer creep level, but it's also because it was quite an interesting final boss.

I think that the Conscript is the only infantry model we have that is anywhere near finished. We're extremely far behind in the infantry department. *looks at OWA*

Don't hold your breath. Dungeon Keeper Mobile pretty much killed the series, in a similar way to Medal of Honor: Warfighter or C&C 4.

Companies are missing out on a LOT of opportunities these days.

It was truly awful. From now on, I'm going to do tests (like a smart person) before taking the setup for a spin with something like this.

GeneralKilljoy:P Let them brainstorm as much craziness as they like; who knows? Maybe something useful could pop up. And besides, it's fun to read these ideas and imagine how they would work.

Just a reminder, I will be recording the event and posting the highlights on YouTube. Hope to see many players and get some good footage!

A public request for feedback on infantry balancing
Killing_You replied to GeneralCamo's topic in W3D Hub Discussion
Actually, they can. The rifle has superior damage, superior magazine size, and superior rate of fire. In any case, if the pistol truly was OP, then anyone and their mother could gun down everything in their path. As it stands, it's possible to use it against high tier infantry, but it's not practical when your options are considered. -

If I'm trying to get good with a pistol, then I'm trying to get good at every aspect of the game. Keep in mind that every character needs to be able to fight effectively, and this goes double for Engineers since they're designed to go into enemy buildings. If I'm going to do that, I'd like to have an option to defend myself as opposed to hoping that I don't get caught, or hoping that my bodyguard(s) aren't terrible. As it stands, while you can use the pistol in combat, you're ultimately better off with just about anything else. I don't want to see the pistol become completely useless just because "you're supposed to repair." -
A public request for feedback on infantry balancing

Or maybe the person wants to use a pistol for some reason. Keep in mind that it is currently useless against vehicles and buildings, and generally pales in comparison to other weapons as far as anti infantry. To use one effectively in combat is a true show of skill, and if you take away it's ability to be used effectively then you might as well disarm Techies and Engineers. -
I still say that if we want to move to UE4, we should have some alternate ideas in mind for something we can sell. That's just my opinion.

A magician did a show on a cruise ship every Thursday for the passengers. Unfortunately, his show started losing popularity because the captain's parrot knew the show inside and out and would constantly spoil it. (He put it in his sock! BRAAAWK!! It's in his hat! BRAAAWK!!) The magician absolutely hated this bird, and one day he got so mad that he pulled out a handgun and shot at it. The parrot ducked, the bullet hit a propane tank, and the ship exploded, killing everyone on board except for the parrot and the magician. After three days of floating on a piece of driftwood, the parrot finally says...

Sometimes trying to operate as an organized unit doesn't go as planned.

Yes, indeed. Couldn't resist

And back once again, this time with the Nod Advanced Power Plant! This one was simpler, but still tricky to design.

With the recent patch adding many goodies, a bunch of us hopped on Tiberian Sun: Reborn for some fun! Since people weren't interested in watching a whole match, I've cut it down to just the most interesting parts- with some captions added as well!

Somewhat old, but worth mentioning for a special reason.

Visceral Games is most likely next, based on how Battlefield: Hardline was received. Bioware is safe for now, I'd say. -
I see this being abused by the Allies for bot spam...

Not without the fan made texture pack. Pre gamma, they were all black, and then Gamma introduced different color settings for different environments. Which, to be honest, was pretty awesome.

I've never had trouble killing infantry as a buggy. Thing is, Nod has to worry about GDI vehicles a lot more than infantry.

Maybe even have abandoned Yuri structures that grant access to Yuri tech if you captured them?

So, with the new patch released, I decided to make yet another replay video. (Yes, this will be a regular thing if the player counts remain high.) Go ahead and check it out! (Also, keep in mind that this was recorded with my old style in mind, and this was more or less a last minute decision. In the future, I will turn off teamspeak for this kind of thing.)

YES! YES! ALL OF THE YES!

Hey all! Sorry about the delay, but the GDI Power Plant was proving to be a royal pain in the... neck. I swear it's cursed. So, I've turned my attention to the Brotherhood of Nod for now! Wally has taken more screenshots, this time of Nod's Construction Yard!
